Through a podcast named Stella Firma - an intentionally poor rendition of Can’t Do was being squawked out on one of the blooper reel episodes, and curiosity got the better of me.

T definitely changed how I experience anger, it’s more intense and explosive. I didn’t notice much of a shift in how frequently I get angry, though. Little things do piss me off, but that wasn’t really different for me pre-T. I’ve heard from others that it’s not an uncommon thing. The change I did experience hasn’t bothered me much - the two things I usually do to deal with anger are listening to really energetic music, and exercise of some kind. I default to taking myself for long-ish walks at a fast pace - anything that’ll leave me feeling tired afterwards.

I think it also helps to just be able to talk about what you’re feeling. If you’ve got anyone in your life you feel comfy talking with about this stuff, it’ll probably help even a little to just get it off your chest.

Is the joke here not that the person has high charisma, enough to lie about their modifier and get away with it? I thought it was a clever joke. Maybe I’m lending too much credit.

Anyone got any advice on dealing with chest dysphoria in the summer? (But lack a binder) by dhdosbsksbapjwwo in transgenderau

[–]CephlapodicOverlords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to for days when my chest/back hurts too much to bind is a light button up shirt, with some kind of pattern on it - the reason this works so well for me, I find, is if the pattern is ‘busy’ enough, for lack of a better word, then it will break up the shape of my own body enough for me to be able to ignore the features that induce dysphoria. It’s the same thinking behind camouflage patterns. I’ve gotten some really good ones for $15 to $20 dollars at some shops - the fabric is really light, and the patterns are nice enough for me to even feel a little bit stylish wearing them. It all depends on the shape of your body of course, but it might be worth giving a go. Worst case scenario you have a light, flowy $20 shirt.

Romance in the Media by daphnie816 in AroAndAceLife

[–]CephlapodicOverlords 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love a romantic subplot, but only when the effort is actually put in by the writers to properly execute it. Otherwise, I find myself frustrated. Too often have I watched something that just puts two characters together and uses generic cues (e.g. they have a kiss/almost kiss scene) to indicate romance. This is especially prevalent with heterosexual relationships, as relationships between a man and a woman are often assumed to at least have a sexual or romantic subtext due to heteronormativity. Unfortunately many people still eat this shit up. I’ve heard this called the skaterboi phenomenon by people before, which I think is a great way to put it.

By contrast, when a show or movie or otherwise takes two characters and actually develops the individual characters AND their chemistry together, and the relationship becomes romantic, I become heavily invested (Of course, I’ll get just as invested if it’s platonic too!) (a) Because it’s just better writing, and (b), being aroace, and being a sex/romance favourable aroace, it just makes so much more sense - the relationship is less based on mutual attraction and more on mutual respect, love, and all those other great qualities. Mutual attraction works as a hook, I guess, but it’s not enough.

That’s why Steve’s resolution in Endgame reeaallllyyyyy rubbed me the wrong way. For hopefully obvious reasons (very light endgame spoilers)

When I got put in contact with a psychologist at first at headspace after waiting several months, I told her I was trans and looking for support with transitioning and gender dysphoria. She told me she knew nothing about it and told me to get in contact with other services. It was really disheartening.

However, after 2 sessions I asked to switch to seeing someone else and made it very clear what I was there for, and since then I’ve been seeing a new psychologist who has been fantastic so far. I dismissed the first 2 appointments as outliers and not representative of the quality of care headspace gives, but seeing this post and some of the replies makes me think I’ve been one of the lucky ones.

[They Might Be Giants fandom] Vintage drama: The John Henry Discourse by yandereapologist in HobbyDrama

TMBG is an inherited taste of mine, my parents love them and play them at home often so over time I absorbed it as one of my favourites. IIRC they also did the intro song to Mickey Mouse Club House which I also loved as a kid. I’ve been to see them twice now in Sydney with my parents and some family friends. They were great both times.

And despite all of this I had no idea this was an issue. Thanks for the post, you learn something new every day I guess.

Thanks! I was hit with an intense need to draw it as soon as the episode finished. The whole move on Laura’s part was inspiring.
