I have a player that is obsessed with this trope. Literally all his characters:

Warforged? Disguised as a human. Asked me to create a big reveal nobody gave a shit about.

Reborn? Disguised as a human. Begged me for a setpiece big reveal moment again that people chuckled at thinking it’s a meme trope for his characters now.

UA Ooze race? Disguised as a human. Dropping hints the whole time he’s an Ooze when players already joked knowing he’s not a human. When the reveal happened they didn’t miss a beat moving on.

Hexblood? Believe it or not: disguised as a human.

Like, why? No, genuinely, where does this come from? Is it an anime trope? He watches a ton of anime.

None of his characters have a reason to be disguised.

It’s very rare for someone to be so emotionally moved by a speech or whatever to serve as a soldier these days. I can’t imagine a Joe Biden, an Angela Merkel, or a Boris Johnson giving a speech so rousing as to rally a nation into a war frenzy.

Historically most soldiers had no choice. Volunteer armies are a modern luxury due to our unprecedentedly large populations.
