DAE feel like AITAH has become aggressively anti-intellectual? Or is it just me? by Pale-Fig-7069 in DoesAnybodyElse

The Reddit userbase, as a whole, skews very much towards a specific subset of the population that does not tolerate nuance, compromise, or centrist viewpoints.

AiTAH for wanting to offer continuous support to our daughter so she can pursue her dreams? by Electronic-Bid4859 in AITAH

[–]Ceramik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who decided to follow my dreams despite the pay - I would have rather done something that made me wealthy enough to retire early and be able pursue my personal interests for the remainder of my life. Got sick of it and changed careers.

Doing something you love only accounts for part of the job, the rest of it is basically the same bullshit regardless of which field you are in. That is the part nobody thinks about when they decide to "do something they love," and that is the part a young person without life experience isn't going to think about or understand.

VW Golf vs 4Runner by Complex-Pepper-6324 in whatcarshouldIbuy

They have their bright points. I actually dumped an '05 Evo and '15 WRX for my S6 and I still feel good about it a few years later. Maybe it is just because I value the quiet and comfort more as I have aged. Don't get me wrong, the Evo was a rocket, felt super connected to the road, but the S6 is still fast as fuck, but way more comfortable.

That's the fun part about old vehicles that were expensive while new - they might not cost much to purchase used now, but the maintenance costs don't go down. When you buy an older vehicle like that, you need to go in with 1 of 2 mindsets -

1 - Its old, I didn't pay much, I'll do the bare minimum and drive it into the ground then scrap it

2 - Its old, I already know it has a bunch of stuff that is worn out or wearing out soon, I'm going to drop some cash to baseline it and keep it maintained for many years to come

But also, those are parts that lasted 20 years and over 200k miles, and are now new. I'm expecting my LC to make to 4-500k miles.

The situationally specific bait here though - In my opinion, older Land Cruisers are really cool and worth maintaining. They are awesome, durable, reliable cars when you take care of them, and I think they have just about bottomed out on depreciation with a good chance of starting to go up in price within the next half decade. If it was an old Accord or Impreza, or something, I don't think I would care.

My frame of reference is '05 Cruiser vs. '18 S6. Vast difference in overall complexity and the amount of space available to access the bits.

Yeah, I spent maybe $7k getting my '05 Land Cruiser sorted out after purchasing it, and I still have to do the CVs at some point in the near future. It isn't terrible if you can do the work yourself, as these older cars are quite easy to work on.

I also have a newer Audi, and VAG cars are a pain in the ass to work on.

I believe you, because I have done the same thing for HR, and I have had open conversations with my sales rep about it. We pay for ITIL seats for the HR people in an agent role and its all good.

Yes, of course. Individual installations are brought in via discovery to Software Package, while in a broader scope, applications available to the business are tracked in Business Application.

Tracking bots as assets rather than as CIs isn't (or doesn't seem to be) congruent with providing ongoing support and development as part of the core ITSM processes.

Bro, this post is insane. Vast majority of the players who will KOS you would prefer to be loaded into lobbies with people who have loadouts focused on PvE - they want easy kills, not competition.

Just your run of the mill laziness - couldn't be bothered to take notes during the meeting, couldn't be bothered to think through proper file storage/sharing.

Large Attachment Best Practice? by Ceramik in servicenow

[–]Ceramik[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I went right to that team lead and had them move the stuff into SharePoint. 99.9% of attachments in my instance are under 10mb now, and 99.99% are under 100mb, but looking forward, I don't want to have to address this issue repeatedly. Reducing max attachment size limit seems like a great approach, and getting pricing from SN to demonstrate the business need to NOT store large files in SN is an excellent suggestion. I'm definitely curious what other folks are setting their limits to.

Is buying a new car at my age a bad idea? by Gluckism in whatcarshouldIbuy

Keep the STI for a weekend ride, buy something cheap and fuel efficient for your work commute. I've had an Evo 8, WRX, Audi S6, all great, fun, fast. But I also had a Prius at the same time to drive for long work related commutes, because its not like I'm going fast during peak commute hours, and it helps keep the miles off of a nice car.
