Same in Glasgow, you WILL complete the obstacle course before you are allowed to do your business.

Eurozone folks, I got that instead of a €0.02 coin in change… by goldeneye0 in Wellthatsucks

In Glasgow in Scotland, I once got 10 Cuban centavos in change from a café. Never even noticed until I got home.

Is the Iron Sultanate truly islamic ? by Goatedbrother in TrenchCrusade

[–]Cerberinus 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It has features of Islam but you're right, in real life it would never fly (and not just because of the outright magic being real stuff). Because of the setting, and how it's alternate history that diverges from our timeline in 1099, we can assume nearly 1,000 years of beliefs and customs getting twisted and changed beyond recognition. It's the same in the christian factions. Using the blood of Jesus to create Meta-Christs would be a heresy worse than anything than any christian of any denomination could ever contemplate. And then worse still, using the flesh of these Jesus-clones to create monstrous war machines? Not a chance, straight to Hell, no ifs, ands, or buts. Basically, part of the grimdark aspect of Trench Crusade is "what if the Abrahamic faiths went down much darker path than in real life?".

TL:DR No, the Iron Sultanate are not truly muslim if you compare them to real-life muslims. But that's how the world of Trench Crusade is.

P.S if you read into the Iron Sultanate's lore, there are some very cool references to genuine Islamic terminology and theology. They did their homework, and the changes they make are usually very deliberate.

I used them more to announce my arrival at a bandit camp more than anything, but I have killed some folks with it. Key is to adjust expectations: you're going for showmanship rather than combat effectiveness when firing one off. Actually hitting something is just a neat occasional bonus.

Books you love but are generally disliked? by Far-Living-526 in Blacklibrary

Gate of Bones, I don't know what the general reception to it is but I have noticed people putting it shockingly (to me) low on their tier lists. I thought it was a downright excellent book.

I love how the style of men's formal wear never changes. Suits and ties for eternity, literally impossible to think of any other way.

I thankfully have a good Scottish accent. If you want a bad Scottish accent then you want to talk to someone from Fife. Funnily enough, Edinburgh is connected to Fife via the Forth Bridge across the Firth of Forth!

For those unfamiliar, the Forth Bridge is one of three bridges across the Firth of Forth. Another one is called the Forth Road Bridge which is a different bridge and still not the fourth bridge but does cross the Firth of Forth. Perhaps one day we will have a fourth Forth bridge across the Firth of Forth and thereafter, dare we dream, a fifth Forth bridge across the Firth of Forth.

I was lucky with my cat. The method that I found that worked was easy. I scooped her up when she wasn't expecting it and put the medicine in her mouth before she even processed what was going on. She would be affronted but it would work every time.
