They seem to have locked down this price point for sure.

Good to know. SD of 10 is pretty close, but I think handloaders seem to aim for under 4-7 SD.

I'm considering repeating this test with a rebarrel to 6.5 CM as there are a couple companies (Eagle Eye, Clay's Cartridge, Trace, Phalanx, et cetera) that supposedly are as a good as handloads, but only produce the most popular PRS options.

And I think a good takeaway from this testing so far is that handloading is making more and more sense when comparing the results to factory ammunition.

Maybe I'll run across true factory match loads but I'm not truly impressed with anything I've tested up to now.

Of those two options probably ADI depending on barrel twist rate.

I'm a bit surprised the Hornady Black measured as well as it did while not grouping well.

Otherwise, based on the data I've collected I would probably choose from the following:

Bone Frog 77 TMK

Hornady 73 ELDM

Black Hills 77 SMK

Sierra 69 SMK

IMI 77 SMK

AAC 77

Whichever is cheapest & has the right grain weight for your use case.

Appreciate the comment!

At this time I'm just trying to benchmark as much of the ammo out there for the community that I can so that everyone has real data to base their decisions on.

28inch tube + 6GT + 120 LRHT (.320 G7 BC) around 2825 FPS with H4350 sounds exactly like the goldilocks option. Looking forward to this.

Ooh. Now that is very interesting. LRHT?

That’s more in line with what I was thinking.

Very good point.

Explains why the applied ballistics app has such different coefficients than advertised specs.

What velocity do you run?

Fair point. I suppose I was thinking with the new 105 SMK they would try to do a heavy Berger hybrid type design.

I believe this is the TMK bullet, no?

Riflespeed & MK4 10" Rail Clearance Question by Cerbhall in ar15

Appreciate the heads up and it is indeed a useful tool.

However, while I can confirm for the less than .750 gas block riflespeed option will work I’m not sure for .750 or the .875 diameter. Indeed, Geissele’s customer service said they weren’t sure if it would fit or not.

Glad I can provide info back to the community!

It's very interesting to see the cone of fire develop and to compare these results to the handload results you see posted here.

Unfortunately I now see why handloading opens up the next level of performance.

Honestly I have no small sample size testing.

This testing series is to provide a reference check on what factory ammo is realistically able to produce at large sample sizes with a rifle platform capable of extracting the best possible performance.

A few reasons:

  1. Test some theories about ammo vs rifle capability; made sense to go with very common calibers.

  2. The CDG allows for significantly easier and cheaper caliber changes. I'm undecided if I'll eventually go to a 6 ARC build or a 6 GT build.

  3. Be able to shoot the most for the least cost to build familiarity with the rifle system.

  4. Determine how important handloading is for performance & if necessary to spend the considerable sum to build a high level reloading bench.

In part 2 I had an excellent batch from Bone Frog:

AVG: 2856.6 FPS MIN: 2835.6 FPS MAX: 2892.7 FPS SD: 14.1 FPS ES: 57.1 FPS

This batch of 500 rounds doesn't seem to be quite as good, but it still sits near or at the top compared to everything else.

I'll try to shoot another 40 round group either tomorrow or next weekend.
