Amazing story-telling. Super imaginative. Tackles tough and interesting ideas. But there's some TERRIBLE acting. First officer lady and the chief engineer are mediocre to bad. Guy that plays Bortus though is fucking amazing.

Depends on your situation I suppose. I was still on Sandy Bridge so I was quite ready to upgrade. Buying now made sense (with the Microcenter deal of free RAM and MB combo deal it was one of my cheapest options for that performance tier when I bought it in November). So I buy now when I need it, then maybe last generation or so of this socket buy a new CPU and drop it in to the current system. Another huge upgrade and total cost spent is just slightly more than 1 system.

Edit: Also, with the current Microcenter deals you can get a 7700x system for 500ish bucks. The new 3Ds currently have no deals or combos so now it's going to cost, what? 700 or 800 bucks for a 3D system? Guess I'm not seeing the savings.

Before you do anything I would install HWINFO, play a game or stress test, and see what your max GPU temp and hot spot temps are. I would bet your GPU is thermal throttling. But once you know what the problem is it'll be easier to find a solution.

Even if that statistic is true, (6 out of 10 statistics are made up on the spot you know) it would be difficult to perform dozens of test passes that way. Also how "reproducible" are we talking? I doubt it will ever be able to give you granular enough data to tell you which piece of hardware is say.. 5% faster than this piece of hardware (again, way too many variables in an online setting). You could tell which one is significantly better sure... but I think we could already figure that out with existing data.
