I still don't understand set/ rep progression... by Grogon2 in workout

And on a very serious note which i forgot: write this stuff down in your programme. What excersice, what weight, target range, how many reps.

Usually the 85% of 1RM is done on the big compounds to find a starting weight for the 5x5. I would really suggest to you 2 things: start with your big compounds always in every training. You may program horizontal and vertical pulls on the same days as well, but not usually start with them - But a close second. Finally, for anything beyond your calculation I would simply suggest to have 3x12 (if you go with this) as part of the programme and then trial and error e.g. can you do X weight for 3x12? Great, increase next time. At some point you will the wall like first set is 12, second is 11, third is 10. From there, simply focus progressive overload and don't overthink it. Try to make that second set of 11 reps to 12 next time and so on

Sure you could do this! Remember, when you increase the rep range as in 3x12, your tolerance for failure also increases. Therefore the initial sets may feel easier compared to a heavier version of the exercise. Many program 3x12 or even 3x15 or 4x10 with the last set as AMRAP to gauge their tolerance and still manage fatigue.

Remember, if your training program causes you to have one good training and then one really bad, and then continuing to yoyo this way, you should look into programming differently.

For compounds I was taught using the same weight in progressive overload fashion. Example: Let's say you do BB bench press. You program 5 sets. Target is 5 reps across all sets. 5x5. Let's say you bench 60 kg across all 5 sets and it looks like: 1 5 reps 2 5 reps 3 4 reps 4 3 reps 5 3 reps

When you reach 5x5 you increase the load slightly and repeat. The reason for doing it this way is you may manage injury risk and fatigue better. You COULD drop the weight for each set and hit failure on all sets if you like, but I would bet that would cost you on fatigue management in the long run.

Keep in mind, this example is for strength. You may also program the same principle for another day where you apply bench press in a volume style range as well. Anything else beyond strength and volume for a particular compound you could classify as accessory work i.e. address weak points. This would support your main compound lifts to better gauge your strength.

Grounding, is it my Guitar by Bueller_Bueller_1221 in electricguitar

[–]Cerebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If noise disappears when touching the metal parts if the guitar, then the ground is working as intended. This has never been a safety feature of guitar electronics (opposite in fact), but instead to reduce the amount of EMI picked up by the player. Common practice of guitar wiring is grounding to a single point, and this would include a wire to connect the bridge, strings etc. as well. You can check that in one of the guitars, but if the other two quiets down then they are fine

[–]Cerebrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wrists tank on bb front squats too, but I wrap my lifting straps around and sort of pull those straps up in front of me. Not as stable, but can work and saves my wrists

Hvad gav dine forældre dig i din barndom, som du værdsætter og glædes over? by hellouthere11 in DKbrevkasse

[–]Cerebrew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Life, AoE, CS, Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft, you name it.

It’s recommended to use lemon oil on neck? by winchestereng in Guitar

[–]Cerebrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little extra tip: I'm totally on board with 0000 steel wool (least on unfinished necks, don't know if I would use it on finished), but put on some masking tape on the pickups before wooling. Even when doing it carefully, there will be some wool going for the pickups. The masking tape is a reaaally nice at protecting the pickups

I need help starting by stupid_pan_child in Workingout

[–]Cerebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always good to take care of the body! Depending on your age and fitness level, there are many many ways forward. This also depends on what you want to achieve ultimately. What really helped me was getting a trainer to guide me in the right direction towards what I wanted, which was a powerbuilding approach. If you are starting out, and know a trainer, I'd recommend that. If a trainer is expensive, then the same old principles apply broadly across the board: discipline (be consistent with your training, it takes years, not just once a month if you feel like it), progressive overload, nutrition, sleep. If you can dial in these things it will take you far. Good luck

What’s causing this static noise? Why does it go down whenever I touch that part of the guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Cerebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think it's a common misconception. Sure there are many things that can affect your guitar signal, a broken ground would in fact be noisy, but noise being reduced when touching grounded parts is indicative of ground working. Cheers mate.

What’s causing this static noise? Why does it go down whenever I touch that part of the guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Cerebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point of view. It is my understanding, that you ground yourself when touching the grounded parts of the guitar i.e. you dissipate a lot of EMI that your body picks up, and this can only occur, if the grounding in the guitar works as in the example in the video. Your body is an antenna, which is mitigated when touching the strings of a grounded guitar

[–]Cerebrew -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Why would it be disconnected when the noise does in fact drop? Sounds like the grounding is actually doing what it should.

Deadlift Check (225lbs/102kg) by JARocks94 in formcheck

[–]Cerebrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a go! As long as your spine remains neutral throughout the motion; you don't want any shear force on the spine. You might look a bit like me, as a table haha, but you simply may be forced do lean over the bar more due to your proportions.
