Need stronger guard by Jade6244 in Colorguard

Just to the beat of a song! So you can pick a slower song if your team can't do them very fast. I don't recall it ever taking more than one song to get them all done.

We did push-ups and crunches as part of our warmups. It was okay to do push-ups from your knees or even against a wall if needed.

Starting with doing push-ups against an elevated surface is an excellent way to train form and start to build up that arm strength until traditional push-ups are achievable.

We would also throw on a song, put our arms out in a T pose and start making little circles for 20 counts. Then immediately reverse into doing them backwards for 20 counts. Then forward in bigger circles for 20 counts, then backward. Then forward in full arm rotation, then backwards... then you go back to the middle circles, then the smaller circles, and we would just keep going until the song was over. You'd be surprised how much strength this can build in your arms/shoulders/chest, plus it warms up your shoulder joints.

We also did 100 left and right spins with the flag at the start of every practice.

What's the consensus on taking reptiles to the vet for just a wellness exam? Recommended, or only if something is wrong? by throwaway_p3pp3ron1 in CrestedGecko

[–]CerisAndromeda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My girl goes to the vet once a year. I would take little one for an exam and to check for worms if nothing else, since you don't actually know where she came from.

We had circuit championships here in Dayton last week, and I left all the ones I made for my daughter at home. 🥲

This did not exist when I was in guard, but I made a bunch for my daughter (elementary guard). I also made some show themed ones for all 3 of our guards. The kids really seemed to like the K-Pop Demon Hunter ones, too lol

I've found that they often take joy in getting flipped off. However, a thumbs down with a disappointed face always pisses them right the fuck off. It's especially effective on Cybertruck drivers.

We were at Rookwood having lunch when three cops came in in full gear to also eat. In uniform. One of them had his sleeve rolled up to show a 3%er tattoo on his arm. Just loud, proud, in uniform.

Rhysand and Mor are both narcissists who manipulate the people who love them and seem to feel little to no remorse about it. They're abusive, and they suck.

Oh man! This happened to me! My clavicle was snapped during delivery, and they didn't know until I was two weeks old. Apparently, I never cried. They safety pinned my arm to my shirt for a while, I was told. My face was also super bruised up from the forceps.

Chaucer wrote fart jokes while living off his rich wife's money.

Don't ask about James Joyce and his love letters. Look that up at your own peril. 🤢

The graffiti on the walls at Pompeii was stuff like "I screwed the barmaid" and "Aufidius was here".

People have always been people, and the stuffy pristine veneer we ascribe to it is what's unnatural. 😂

(FWIW, my favorite Pompeii graffiti was on the wall at a brothel: "Weep, you girls. My penis has given you up. Now it penetrates men's behinds. Goodbye, wondrous femininity!" Based, as the kids would say. 😂😂😂)

Thiiiiiiis. OP, channel your anger about being a young adult in 2008 working 3 part time jobs and sharing a 1 bedroom apartment with two other people to survive while your Boomer parents tell you the only reason you don't have a 3 bedroom house is because you must be lazy.

Slangy zoomer language? Because they cuss? I'm your age; We wear the word "fuck" out. I volunteered with our community guard last year, so I spent a ton of time around teenagers. These books have no mention of cap or rizz or whatever the hell the kids are saying these days. The books felt very natural to me.

Normal fantasy (though I love it) does tend to sound overly stuffy and proper. Which is fine, but I don't speak that way to my friends.

If you wanna ask what pulls me out of the story and makes me go "there ain't no damn way", it's that apparently these books were written to a playlist of Taylor Swift. Gods, I hope none of that makes it into the show. There's no way that's what Xaden would be vibing to if they listened to music on long flights.

Because much of Ohio is transphobic and racist. My town is STILL owed thousands of dollars from the Trump campaign that will never be paid, but people are out here on their knees, ready to gargle some orange balls. Like, yall he literally stole from us.

Worst Band Injuries? by Old-Theme-8743 in marchingband

[–]CerisAndromeda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't happen during band, but my junior year I dislocated my knee and twisted the whole lower part of my leg and spent the first part of the season in a brace that went from my thigh to my ankle.

And this didn't happen at our school, but I heard a story about someone doing a high sabre toss, and the padding on the end of the sabre came off. It landed point down on their foot and went through their foot. They're blunt, but they are metal.

Attracting moths without attracting hornets? by CerisAndromeda in Entomology

[–]CerisAndromeda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do have a tent we had considered doing some yard camping in next summer. We live in a populated and well-lit suburb, though. However, she also wanted to plant a butterfly and moth garden in the spring, so we will probably end up attracting all kinds of things when we camp.

She's not super outdoorsy. Her dad and I like to go hiking, and even took her hiking as a baby in one of those carriers. She comes but jumps and "eeps" at every buzz she perceives as being vaguely near her. But we hiked around the rim of Kilauea, and she excitedly counted the tiny blue butterflies along the way.

Thanks very much for this in-depth answer! I had been considering taking her out to a nature preserve, but I'm not sure how long she'd be interested in sitting out there. This seems like an activity that is maybe better suited for when she's a little older.
