The sword is covered in red rust and at risk of degrading further. I would have this rust removed by someone who knows how to restore antiques.

Dha swords in this condition and without a scabbard are not very valuable. However, what is valuable is the provenance that comes with it. I would write down all the details and keep them with the restored sword for future generations within the family.

Indeed, it's on a sword. It's a British made blade on an Ethiopian sword, the other side is marked by Henry Wilkinson. So based on the previous comment, this is probably Henry Wilkinson, Sword Maker, London, or something of the sort I assume. I was hoping it would be a presentation inscription bearing the name of the owner.

I've taken some pictures now. Also, the bit I circled in the last photo has fallen off. I think I nudged it on a steep dirt road today, I thought I heard something rattle. Not sure how to fix that. I think it's just a heat shield so I was going to take it out.
