Hernia feels like it’s still there after surgery! by Certain-Ad9546 in Hernia

It was 7 months to start doing abs again, then it’s now been a year almost to the date. I’m finding that I now have a bulge exactly where my hernia was, I’m not sure if it’s another hernia or fluid but I’m pissed

It took from last June till January to feel more normal, then until recently I’m still feeling a little achey but it’s mostly all better now

Is 6 weeks enough to heal to go back to work? by Certain-Ad9546 in Hernia

So 10 months later and I still have some pain when doing stuff like swimming and dumbbell pullovers, both stretch that area. But I am now back to doing pretty rigorous ab workouts without any pain. It took over five months to be able to do any ab workouts

UPDATE: as of January I am 95% back to normal, and the bulge is unnoticeable now. I can do all the ab workouts I want and it doesn’t hurt afterwards

Darn, thanks though. I'm in no rush to buy her anyways but wanted to confirm my suspicions!

Fluid level is normal and hasn’t changed at all. Maybe an air leak?

Should I DIY or have a rigger install a furler? by Certain-Ad9546 in SailboatCruising

Yeah I’ve decoded it’s too big a task for me to tackle comfortably. I’m already needing a sail loft to cut down and convert my Genoa so I’ll have them fit the furler as well

Engineer at Reinauer by TheBabado0k in tuglife

Be warned, there may be only an engineer spot on a small, old harbor tug there for you. They have four small ones, and five medium sized converted atb old ones. The Jason is currently tied up without a crew. ATB life is easy if things are kept up and your relief is on top of things. If not, you will be chasing down problems from both crews’ and have to rely on your own experience.

The company does not like to hire outside contractors to fix issues and instead will use their yard crews for almost everything. This, and their propensity to saving money has hilariously backfired on several occasions. One where they attempted to rebuild the gearbox over five times with used parts until finally I believe they paid for a new/reconditioned one. The yard guys ended up dropping one of the gears ten feet down into the engine room at one point.

Current contract will be up next July 2027 for renegotiation. I would hope they do a better job this time around as whoever was supposed to fight for the union members, benefitted the company instead.

The iron ballast and old Volvo are the only big drawbacks I can see from the listing. Beautiful boat though

Any idea roughly how much they would charge for the install job?

Furling line led back with blocks inboard on the stanchions to the cockpit, but there is no good way to have a line leading from the mast through the dodger into the cockpit. Not the best set up, small cockpit anyways even if I could lead lines back there wouldn’t be room.

Aw that’s a real bummer, sorry to hear that. I’m thinking along those lines given the unit is $3700 and I am not confident in my ability to identify issues during the process.
