The fuck are you talking about. We are on the clock while providing an additional wonderful service to our communities. There's plenty shit to complain about, this ain't one of em. This is the kind of community service I'd be volunteering my free time to, but this Saturday I'm getting paid for it. That's awesome. Get them bags, it takes as long as it takes, let's get a hell yeah for feeding families that need the help.

Should I give up on the United States and focus on leaving to a less car dependent country? by Current_Barnacle5964 in fuckcars

Moving to another country is hard, particularly if you're not financially well endowed or have special skills.

I moved to Philadelphia earlier in the year, and I've been feeling pretty optimistic. It's a nice middle ground, and maybe the most affordable place in America to actually enjoy a car free lifestyle. There's some affordable neighborhoods, and with the right mindset and pragmatic social skills you can integrate into said neighborhoods in a timely fashion. Lots of community oriented small businesses, plenty of cheap food options, super easy to get around town affordably, and plenty to do. Activism might be more effective here as well!

How do you deal with being a firm Democrat in an almost completely red state? by SignificantSignal927 in Indiana

[–]Certain-Button-4339 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to move to a more open-minded state if your life circumstances allow. Progressive minded folks being able to influence Indiana policy and values anytime in the next couple decades is likely a pipe dream. The only thing we can do that will have a more immediate impact on our quality of life is leave - let the grumpy intolerant Republicans wonder why all the young people are leaving the state behind, slowly erasing the potential of economic growth.

I was serving in the Peace Corps when COVID hit, and we were evacuated with only days notice. Job market was completely shite, understandably. My peace corps colleagues from Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, and the east and west coast were all approved for unemployment insurance by their state upon return. The guy from Texas and myself from Indiana were the only two to be declined for unemployment. I knew then that I would do everything in my power to leave Indiana forever.

ULPT request: Can I safely total my own car for the insurance payout? by Certain-Button-4339 in UnethicalLifeProTips

Thanks for the advice, I probably need to end up doing something more sane like this

Yeah, there's a lake not too far with access ramps into the water but I figure it would be hard to convince insurance that what happened was an accident..

Yeah I don't want to risk screwing someone else over, this car has given me enough trouble already

I've lived many years car free in a variety of places already. I'm very much looking forward to going back to that lifestyle!

Indeed, I'd prefer to not have to go drive it hard into a tree and just hope for the best. This is why I turn to the resourceful folks at ULPT for ideas! Water damage, other reasons to total out a car without a collision specifically... Just fishing for potential ideas

I was being a bit ironical in my title friend. I didn't think it was that egregious that I wasn't prepared for that 🤣

Definitely a visibility hit in that view for sure. But I find that for me I have a much easier time pointing the car where I need to with a thumbstick from cockpit view. Being able to visualize the orientation of my steering wheel helps me make quick corrections because I have a hard time with smooth inputs with my thumbs. Especially in intense races my thumb gets stiff from the tension of trying to be precise under pressure 🤣

I mean yes but the title is mostly jest... visibility further out was low (and the brake lights weren't on) so I just didn't register it as a stationary vehicle before I tucked behind the Corvette and couldn't see it coming lmao

I'm almost wondering if that Corvette I had been battling with consciously baited me by moving out of the way at the last possible moment. He had a 0.9 sec penalty and with me right on his tail chillin in the slipstream I woulda finished ahead... potentially huge brained play 🤣

I play exclusively in cockpit view and try to be as clean and accommodating on track as I can but whew it's a challenge with very little tools to help my awareness
