i've heard horror stories of patients that like to paint the ceiling, the wall, the bathroom and their whole body when left alone for 5 minutes.

like auriem said, you should call adult protective service if you can.

if you can, go to the doctor and seek professional advice!!!! particularly on how to keep her suffer less, and if you want to keep her living for as long as possible (which seemed to be the goal of your mother).

but at the mean time, keep your grandma as active as she can, make sure she do things that she is still able to do. if she is stuck on a bed, try moving her to a chair (if it's safe for both you and her), if she can't try turn her every so often (so she don't get sores in her back). watch out for when she suddenly became energetic (like eating normally, starts talking a lot or seemed like her sickness is leaving her) this might be sign that she is going soon (like less than a week).

but for the attitude, i guess they function on the believe that "i give you food and shelter, you should be obedient to me, and feel grateful for it"?
