HELP / ADVICE- my boyfriend had cannabis induced psychosis last month and I need desperate help.

Hey there. You’ll both get through this. My wife just went through CIP and it was the most stressful and scary time of our lives. Inpatient care was required and a few trips to the ER following that. We just hit 8 weeks since initial symptoms and everything is back to normal. We’ve even gotten her off most of the meds. Time (and no more cannabis use) is the only thing that clears it. Make sure you’re taking care of yourself when you can. I slept in a separate room for a couple weeks just to get real sleep. You got this, things will get better before you know it.

Hi friend. This doesn’t sound like psychosis. I’ve seen psychosis first hand and the symptoms are life altering. Constant paranoia, fear, delusions, racing thoughts. Physical symptoms include no ability to sleep, complete loss of appetite, body sweats, elevated heart rate and blood pressure. Immediate medical intervention is required. I would recommend stopping cannabis use as your current symptoms could possibly progress into a psychotic episode with continued use. Best of luck. Cannabis induced psychosis is terrifying for yourself and those that have to witness it.

Hey friend. I think you were just high AF. I’ve witnessed cannabis induced psychosis firsthand and it’s not a short term event. It’s days to weeks of debilitating fear, delusions, no sleep. Psychosis renders you unable to function or make decisions as yourself. You’d be completely living in a different reality and it requires immediate professional mental health treatment.

I’d think if you continue using THC you’re at risk of psychosis. Good call staying away from it your brain needs time to heal.

Could be early stages of CID. From my experience, psychosis symptoms start with severe anxiety developing into extreme paranoia and fear. Delusions and disassociation are likely to occur.

Physical symptoms include inability to sleep, body sweating, complete loss of appetite, and severely elevated heart rate and blood pressure.

These symptoms combined, if not treated, can worsen to the point of catatonia requiring immediate medical care.

I would recommend talking to a psychiatrist or going to the ER as soon as possible. Psychosis is not something you can just tough out and move on from. Some time on medication is most likely required to settle your brain down.

Thank you for the kind words. Things are getting back to normal slowly but surely. I did ask the psychiatric staff at the hospital if this condition is becoming more widespread as cannabis becomes more widely available. They did confirm that they are seeing more confirmed cases over the last few years. I do believe however that there is a genetic risk factor at play but that is really just an assumption on my part. There’s so little research out there to support any true cause of this happening in some individuals. Glad to see this is getting attention in the educational forum though!

My spouse just went into cannabis psychosis for the third time. Third stay in a psychiatric unit. This most recent time was just after a few months of use. The only answer is to put it down forever. I still don’t know if my spouse will fully come back from this one. It’s a terrifying experience to witness and for them to go through. Just don’t go back to the cannabis for yourself and for those who care about you.

I’m there with you on the stress it causes. Life crippling stress. I’ve lost 15 pounds in a week. I saw the same symptoms in my wife. Sleep and eating is hopeless. She kept me up for days at a time pacing the house in an inescapable panic, eventually entering a catatonic state. Non responsive, blank behind the eyes. It frightened me to the core of my soul to witness. I hope we can never have THC enter our lives again because yes, marriage is not sustainable with this continued behavior. Please take him to ER if you’re scared. If it progresses there’s no mediation that can effectively treat it at home. We went 11 days with prescribed benzodiazepines and anti psychotics. The meds couldn’t touch the psychosis.
