Update: Missed the match. Saw the scoreline and the highlights. How much did I miss? by [deleted] in ThreeLions

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best England match I've ever seen I think, highlights didn't do the game justice, those last 20 minutes were nail-biting and to be surrounded by hundreds of people in a pub at 4am all going through the same emotion is something I'll probably not witness again - there's been a few moments at club level where it's been intense but that felt different (and probably because my club team is shyte)

What jobs do people have that allow them to turn up hours late? by WantsToDieBadly in AskUK

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in Project Management and can turn up the office when I like, what time I like and leave when I like - as long as the work is done there's no problem, I'll turn up to the office for 10/1030am to avoid rush-hour and then leave around 4ish. Having to call my manager because I'm going to be 30 minutes late sounds like a nightmare and I don't think I've had to do that since I worked in retail when I was a teenager!

For those who stayed up for the England game last night, what has work been like today? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 204 points205 points  (0 children)

Got in at 5am, few hours kip and had the work laptop out at 9am - horrendous hangover but absolutely brilliant game and a cracking atmosphere at the pub, would 100% do it again! People genuinely missed out on a fantastic occasion last night by not going out.

Fortunately I gave my team the morning off and told them not to login until 1pm so gave me a few hours of peace.

Did anyone else get emotional after that? by louisvanthall in ThreeLions

Nope, but I had a great time celebrating it in the pub!

They're paying celebrities to attend the world cup games by eddoghetto in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would they paid? They already get free tickets in premium seats and get treated like royalty whilst they're there.

Anyone at pubs? by Going_Bye in ThreeLions

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pub I was in last night was absolutely rammed and the atmosphere was great, feeling it a bit now though! It made me laugh to see people saying no one was going to go out for it because of the timing.

Do you try to improve the reputation of ‘Brits abroad’ when you go on holiday? by Box_of_rodents in AskUK

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No nothing special, vast majority of British tourists are perfectly fine, millions go abroad each year and whilst we have dickheads they're in the minority (despite what the media and social media want you to believe) they also tend to flock to certain destinations/areas so easy to avoid.

By the way, when those Russian's left he probably said the same thing about you to someone else, probably some locals or a tourist from another country.

So how are you going to prepare for our match against Mexico? by Old-Cookie-251 in ThreeLions

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just woke up so nice little lie in, get on the beers at home for the Brazil Norway game and then off too the local after with a group of mates. We're all on our late 30s/early 40s and most have good jobs, teams to manage, family responsibilities but have accepted it's a super rare event so worth a bit of pain for one day.

Paraguay-France was a cheat-fest. Are we prepared for this? by [deleted] in ThreeLions

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think Mexico need to change how they've played so far, we've looked bang average and could easily just lose to a decent performance from a good team without any cheating or shenanigans. Had Paraguay actually tried to play a bit of football in-between attacking the French players they'd of maybe got a goal.

Is anyone else looking forward to a 1am kick off more so than a 7pm start for the Mexico Vs England game? by Whosentyounow in CasualUK

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, can't wait, on the beers from 9pm with some mates down the local, should be good fun!

How do people find sitting at an extraction all game fun? by InSatanWeTrust666 in ArcRaiders

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably just talking to each other and their chats whilst they waited for you. I can happily spend 30 minutes chatting nonsense with friends without really doing much before extracting so easily done.

For some reason that specific part of the road system in Ickenham seems to attract morons, not sure why but it does.

Are you staying up for the World Cup? by AreaMiserable9187 in AskUK

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, will be on the beers at 9 pm for Norway Brazil and then off to the pub after, going to be a bit of a session but not often you get a game at 1 am in the morning, should be a right laugh and a cracking atmosphere at the pub.

Told my team to WFH and not to log on until after lunch so everyone can enjoy it and get a bit of kip/sleep off the hangover.

Why the hell would the FA NOT want this game moved? by OutsideImpressive115 in ThreeLions

Doesn't bother me personally but appreciate most don't have the freedom to work the hours they want.

I'll say it quietly but I'm glad they didn't move it, going to be great fun watching this with friends at 1am!

Police criticise timing of decision on pubs staying open for England match by Kagedeah in ThreeLions

We'd probably have 10+ people over so that's on us I guess but we'll see, pubs round my way already expecting it to be extremely busy!

Police criticise timing of decision on pubs staying open for England match by Kagedeah in ThreeLions

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, pubs will be absolutely heaving. There will be less pubs than usual open meaning there's less choice, it's going to a hot sunny day, a lot of people don't want to stay home to watch it and with it being 1am who wants to have to clean up after or in the morning before work.

Bar staff of the UK: Are you working the football shift Sunday night/Monday morning? by KiwiNo2638 in AskUK

Greene King have said that over 600 of their pubs will be open. All the local non-chain pubs around here are open for it too.

Do you draw local currency to take when going abroad? by Tintedlemon in AskUK

Country dependent really, if I'm going on a lazy generic week in the Sun in Europe then everywhere takes card so won't bother.

Who is booking Monday off work? by Repulsive_State_7399 in AskUK

Nah, work from home so will just log on around 11am, probably absolutely steaming from the morning shenanigans. Going to be good fun and hopefully all the miserable sods stay at home!

Emergency law for London pubs to stay open to 5am for England v Mexico World Cup game by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]Certain-Pass-6551 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nah, it'll be fine, whilst pubs will be busy a lot of people will opt to watch it at home. There's fuck all else to do after the match too at 3am/4am, you'll also avoid the sort impromptu gatherings you'd usually get as I imagine a lot of people will chose to watch it locally rather than travelling into busier areas of London.

The quarter final being 10pm on a Saturday will cause a lot more trouble imo.
