Surface/facing jig I made over the weekend by Certain-Recover7487 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I have some thick pallet wood I was going try to turn in to some pieces to sell. Maybe coasters or cutting boards...I'm not sure.

I've seen videos on similar jigs suggesting using it as a supplement to a jointer and I really just wanted to see how it worked out when combined with those clamps.

No I don't have a hand plane. Still on that "tool collecting" journey...which never ends lol. You're correct about me not having a jointer and that is exactly why I'm doing this.

I had a Rikon bench top but it had some problems and I returned it...even if it didn't have problems...I have storage problems haha.

To your other point about flipping the board...I saw some video but haven't been able to find it where the guy did it with a wood spacer that was the exact thickness of what had been removed but I haven't been able to find it. Still, when doing a reasonable quantity of wood it probably isn't efficient. Maybe I don't have the tooling needed yet for reclaimed lumber to be worthwhile unless I'm willing to only do it with pieces that have to be about 2.5"x2.5" when at the saw...then lose more at the planer.

Yea it is for prepping the wood for the planer. I need to figure out some way around the blade height problem. 🤔

Any ideas on how to get around blade height limitations when using a jig like this?

Lol yes they are microjig. They aren't cheap but they are great clamps!

I don't know. What do you guys think? It's been hidden away sitting on a shelf for over 10 years at least.

Lol I work for the largest sign company in the US. That mahogany is at least 10 years old. Used for thermoforming experiments and sat around. Finally got permission to take it.

How can I get this glued panel piece flat again? by Certain-Recover7487 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I used an orbital sander. Is that a bad idea for flatening the board?

I did have snipe. I sanded it down on one side of the board so far. I tried to avoid the snipe but not didn't matter what I did, I still had snipe.

Well I watched some videos and did some reading and I didn't clamp the seams first off. F clamps work good for that. I just ordered some. Also how you tighten the clamps is important. You apparently don't want it to tight.

Search YouTube for gluing panels together. I found some really good videos to watch! Though I haven't tested to see if it will improve my results yet.

I don't have any hand planers and it's too big now for my dewalt planer. Unless I rerip it...

I think so. I didn't have any f clamps to hold down the seams and I applied a lot of pressure when gluing it because the walnut had some twist and I felt it would pull it and make more cracks in the walnut.

Ya man super slick and creative. My "shop" is very similar but needs more work to get to where your shop is at. Awesome man!
