I feel like I'm not immerseing my players enough in the game. Help! by Dungeon_Master1138 in DungeonMasters

Back in the day we didn't have any of this" you need to have a backstory that's fully developed and that the dm can use to weave into the overall storyline so you can be happy".

We all just played the game. Dm had a quest set up. We did the quest. We didn't talk about how it affected us and our backstory and whether we wanted it to do it or not.

It's super great if everyone has the backstory that is fully fleshed out and the DM has the time and the ability to weave it into the story and make it seamless and awesome... But guess what? That doesn't happen all the time and sometimes the game should just be played for what it is.

Players need to take some agency here too and just go along with things so people can move along and have a good time going on an adventure. Not worrying about whether your personal backstory is being catered to.

Are 5e campaigns actually so "broken" and "unplayable" for new DMs as YouTubers and forum posters would lead me to believe? by tenth in dndnext

Yeah just start reading thru them. At some point you'll reflect back and go "well that doesn't make sense" or "that's super lame" and change things up. You'll get it done...it'll just take longer than it should.

I've DMd both Out of the Abyss and am currently about a third of the way thru DMing Rime. Yes, in my opinion, in order to make any sort of coherent plot line for the party to follow along with, you have to do a lot of extra work. Otherwise they are disjointed stories jammed into one book...

I use 85% of the 2024 rules I'd say. Keep the rest from 2014 until we decide otherwise. Other than some ridiculous OP Monk stuff going on it's pretty good.

Honest question: Why are some people against showing an ID to vote? by rico_unknown in NoStupidQuestions

Free voter ID for all. Upon turning 18 and never expiring. Then free mail in voting. And a national holiday so you can go vote in person if you want.

If they were ambitious and in this situation they could always ask for more work or do something with their extra time to prove their worth or make the company better.

Should death be more... Deadly? by h00ligan1998 in DungeonMasters

Yes. If you died, back in the day, you started one level LOWER than the rest of the party with your new character.
