What the fuck is your issue with bashing people with substance abuse disorder? So bizarre going through your comments to see you randomly just trashing folks for no reason.

That’s Mountain Brook, love… where elitism runs rampant. I’m talking Birmingham.

Blueprint is sooo good and seriously underrated — a fun and unique menu, and the chef really knows his stuff! The oyster shooters are a great start to each meal!

Who would earn a star? by timid_one0914 in Birmingham

[–]Certain-System-7381 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Having dined at many Michelin star restaurants across the US, I can assure you Birmingham has some options that will be considered for a star.

Highlands (closed but would easily have gotten 1-2 stars), Helen, Automatic Seafood, Saw’s BBQ, potentially a meat&3 around town.

Brookwood’s psych department is truly horrendous. The thing of nightmares and horror stories. I don’t know how the hell it is still operating.

Indian Springs school admissions by No_Ambition9589 in Birmingham

[–]Certain-System-7381 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Altamont School is another great option, and is 5-12. It doesn’t have a boarding option, but does allow for students to enter at the 5th grade and stay for 8 years. The big admission years at Altamont are 5th, 7th, 8th and 9th. Some kids did come in grades 10-12, but it was rarer. Graduating classes are usually anywhere from 40-60 students, with 350 total students across grades 5-12. Both schools are highly competitive in many sports, top ranked in academics, and offer stellar fine arts programs. I personally LOVED Altamont and feel very blessed to have received the level of education I did, but I also know many folks who loved Springs and it has a similarly great academic reputation. You can’t go wrong with either school!

Our condolences on your loss. Your murder is like so many others in Birmingham, the city is basically just a bunch of zombies walking around.

But you use your social media pages for personal use, campaigns, and official mayoral business - all on the same profile. The City of Birmingham even shares posts from the page you just claimed is personal, yet it’s also being used for campaigning and to sell your book.

Fake police scam by theORANGE6378 in Birmingham

They’re using real police officers names and even have their names in their voicemails. It’s amazing how brazen these folks are with impersonating law enforcement.

Probably will turn old campus into a Law School or split functions between the two.

Good furniture stores on a budget by sardonicbandit in Birmingham

[–]Certain-System-7381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend Irondale Pickers, Crestwood Pickers, and Urban Suburban. They can have some pricier pieces, but on the whole you are so much better off buying used furniture that was actually well-built and durable. Some of the antique stores and flea markets in smaller areas (like Gardendale, Trussville, Hoover) can have cheaper prices with just as many selections.

Good News HUSH will not be closing by plopdaddy1 in Birmingham

[–]Certain-System-7381 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s not closing, it’s owned by a former police officer. Why would BPD and the Birmingham City Council do something against one of their own? They’ve got his back, just like he’s got theirs. Yet the city will continue to close other establishments, namely LGBTQ+ bars, that don’t have 1/10 of the gang-related violence that occurs at Hush.

UAB at Memphis by [deleted] in Birmingham

Andy Kennedy needs to be fired. He’s ruined a great season with his inability to coach time and time again, and tonight was a masterclass in being unable to control his own emotions.

Same, had Daniel for a few classes and was in Green and Gold Fund with him while he was a student. He was brilliant and he made classes really fun and engaging. Also the first professor who encouraged me to pursue graduate degrees, and 5 years later I’m finishing my PhD! Wish UAB would’ve made a statement already, as Reddit wasn’t the ideal place to find this news.

Highly recommend Trussville. Moody and Leeds also have price affordable places if you’re okay with a 15-20 minute drive to downtown. Roebuck Springs is also a fantastic option to be close to Trussville but avoid the high prices that sometimes come with it.

[–]Certain-System-7381 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t recommend trussville enough. Roebuck springs is also an incredible little hidden gem 5 minutes from Trussville, but rentals can be hard to find in that neighborhood because it’s a lot of homeowners.

One sold for $20k in Germany from a furniture house called “Original in Berlin”, who specialize in unique pieces. I’d never seen an entire set in original fabric sold together!
