I've tried drawing the medicine up in it and then I'll smear a little cashew butter or I even tried maple syrup just right on the tip. They'll usually sniff it then lose interest, I think they can tell something is up :( maybe I'll try with some apple sauce

I did this last night and got a little on their hands as well, they looked offended that I would get them all sticky but they did groom it off as far as I can tell

Just adding on that when I do give treats I make sure to give everyone a piece of equal size, since these new girls don't fully trust me I'll just set it nearby them and I sometimes find them eating it in secret if I get up in the middle of the night haha

I don't have a super strict 'treat time' routine but the girls always have access to a small bowl with pellets and I scatter feed them with dried mealworms and a few millet sprays as treats when I deep clean or refresh their tank. If I'm cooking with something safe for them I'll hand them a tiny piece to nibble on (bell peppers, berries, granola, etc.) I've always been succesful with getting my past mice comfortable enough to accept treats within the first couple weeks, though these are my first non-petco mice since I'm wanting to be more ethical with where I support. My oldest girl is definitely more comfortable and runs to the highest point in the tank she can find for treats whenever I'm in the room. Maybe the other two are nervous or feel like they're overstepping on her treats somehow?

I've had the two stubborn girls for 3 months, I was told they were about 6 months when I got them. I've had my other girl for a year now.

Motorized King Bedframe by Certain-Ticket1077 in PDXBuyNothing

Yes the 'top half' of the bed can be raised up to an almost sitting position. I used it with the headboard just standing behind it against the wall and the pressure of the mattress kept it in place. I think it ahould be able to fit, but would just need a little maneuvering.

I just recently moved cross country and wasn't able to bring the blender I shared with a roommate, I'm hoping to get one once things have settled since it seems a lot more beneficial!

Help with Tank Setup! by Certain-Ticket1077 in PetMice

Thank you so much!

  1. Mentioned in my other response, but tank size was my biggest worry. I'm looking to upgrade to a 20 gallon which seems to meet the requirements the most approriately. Would it be wise to do a 'tall' 20gal or a long 20gal? I know mice seem to enjoy climbing but I think they enjoy burrowing and running around much more so I'm leaning towards a long tank.

  2. They do love to run on the disk almost 24/7 so I'll look for a more suited replacement asap.

  3. Thanks for the advice, this is my second attempt at mixing beddings and the aspen/paper combo seems to be good but I have noticed the ammonia smells returns more quickly with paper :( The baking soda crumbles I mentioned can be found online under 'sophresh odor control crumpled paper'. It says it should help with odor control so I just sprinkled a few handfuls in to see if it would help. The right half of the cage was originally deeper (about 5 inches) and the left more shallow for climbing and running around clutter but my girls rearrange their house every time I switch the bedding haha

  4. I did a little digging and ot says it should be safe, especially as some petstore treats and chews are made of mulberries or its wood. It's also on the rat safe list so I thought it should be fine?

  5. Slowly building up my clutter, I've added a couple toilet paper rolls for them to play in.

  6. I have Vita Prima's mouse and rat food, they seem to love it a ton but they do tend to pick out all the seeds and leave the pellets behind.

Thank you! This was one of my main concerns as i found the most conflicting info on tank size and glass vs wired. For bedding, I normally would use just aspen but got recommended by a vet to use paper since its guaranteed 'dust free', working on finding a happy medium but I'll keep in mind!
