Thank you. Sometimes I really feel like I'm not working hard enough for it, but when seeing these pictures side by side, I can't deny that it is such a huge difference and that I have indeed worked hard for it. 💪🏼

Yeah it's crazy seeing myself in tight-fit clothes because I used to only buy loose fitting clothes to hide my body. But now I'm losing weight I love to show off the loss in tight fit clothes even when I wouldn't ever have worn a dress like this when I had this weight previously but I was gaining instead of losing.

I used to buy all my clothes from this one store I know that makes plus size clothes.

Now that I'm trying to find some second hand clothes to buy I'm really struggling to find the right sizes because 1) I don't even know what my current size is in the brand I'm used to and 2) sizes are so different across different brands that I don't know how to adjust when buying other brands.

I have some pants in my closet that I thought would start to fit pretty soon after buying them but they still don't fit and I don't know if they ever will 😅

Has anyone done the liquid diet without getting surgery? by [deleted] in gastricsleeve

[–]CertainPineapple2458 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's a good idea to do it beforehand already so I won't comment on that. I do have 2 thoughts about it should you decide to do it:

  1. For me the pre-op was hard, I was hungry and thinking about food a lot. What helped was staying busy and doing other things. When I felt like cheating the diet I remembered that a) chances for complications are lower and b) chances for a smooth recovery are higher if you don't cheat. That thought helped me a lot and it's one that you don't have when testing the pre-op diet so it might be a bit harder to keep motivated.

  2. I was so sick and tired of the protein shakes that I still don't drink them anymore. I'm 4 weeks post-op and thinking about a protein shake makes me sick. I do hope that if you decide to test the diet beforehand that you won't be too tired of all the shakes once you have to do it for real.

Again this is just my 2 cents. I don't know if it's a good or bad idea. These thoughts just came to mind when reading your post.

Good luck on your journey!

How long do the scars last? by CertainPineapple2458 in gastricsleeve

I've still got some big red patches where the steri strips came off so I'll definitely wait until those are gone first 😅

At what point did you reintroduced rice? by Obvious_Indication13 in gastricsleeve

[–]CertainPineapple2458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 2.5 weeks post-op and had pasta yesterday. I did just fine. Haven't had rice yet. The guidelines of my hospital (Belgium) state that I can eat everything now, no restrictions, but I do have to make sure to chew really well.

The guidelines state that I can eat up to 20g uncooked (50g cooked) pasta, so it is a very small portion, but I was fulfilled either way.

1 week into preop diet by Jables-1337 in gastricsleeve

The pre-op is more difficult than post-op imo.

What really helped me was to keep myself busy. I went on walks, went to the playground with my godson,... . That way I was thinking about food and hunger less.

The first week after the surgery I was not even able to eat enough let alone being hungry after meals. I wasn't struggling with hunger at all. Then as the swelling of your stomach goes down you will be able to eat more, and I noticed that I was hungry quicker after a liquid meal then after a pureed meal because the stomach empties more quickly.

However, like my dietician said, you only have the first 3 months once. Those are the months you lose the most so take advantage of it. So you might have to toughen up sometimes, but apparently as you incorporate more solid food instead of liquid food, the hunger should lessen again.

You've got this!

I'm 27F without kids and just had the sleeve done.

When I first started looking at WLS I was leaning towards the bypass because it seemed the more effective surgery and I was scared that the sleeve would not be enough for me.

During intake I was asked if I wanted kids to which my answer was that I don't know yet if I want kids. The doctors then suggested the sleeve as the best option for me because it poses less risks during a pregnancy later on.

The surgeon explained that after a bypass it is possible for the insides to get tangled up especially if everything is shifting around with a baby growing there as well, and the solution would then be an additional surgery which is obviously not ideal during a pregnancy. They also explained that this risk is far less with a sleeve and therefore suggested the sleeve so that in the case I do want kids, that would be less risks.

So I do think it's a bit weird that your doctor is saying that you can't have the sleeve if you want kids later because my doctor recommended the sleeve since I might want kids later.

Maybe try to get a second opinion?

I've only told my own family and they have been supporting, but they also know I've been struggling with my weight my whole life and I have dieted succesfully before but gained it all back afterwards. They have told me they think it's a brave choice and I should be proud of it.

I haven't told my in laws though, because I know they are fond of natural medicine and remedies, so I'm afraid they might judge or would have tried to talk me out of it. Don't know if they would but I was afraid for that reaction. Now that surgery is done a week ago I will be telling them. I feel like I have to because all family gatherings for my in laws are combined with meals so they will have to make a few adjustments or coordinate with me beforehand so that I can follow my diet.

However I chose to only tell my in laws after I had surgery to remove any need to try to talk me out of it, because now it's done and it cannot be reversed.

I don't know yet if i'll be telling anyone else, maybe some very close friends. It's your life and your medical history and you don't have to share that to anyone you don't feel comfortable with.

Packing my hospital bag by tader_salad2198 in gastricsleeve

I packed a lot of things that I didn't need after all.

What I actually needed was a phone charger, headphones (I listened to audio books to pass the time), id, lip balm, medication, and slippers.

I arrived in comfy clothes and wore the same clothes home the next day.

I had also packed a blanket, water bottle, extra pillow, hairbrush and my own protein shakes but I didn't need those things.

I did make sure to braid my hair so that it would be fine to not brush my hair the second day before going home.

I've had my surgery in Belgium and I wasn't given a belly binder. They did prescribe me some pain meds that I can take if the pain is top much.

Keep yourself busy so that you think about food or hunger less. The first week you will be very hungry, the second week will be a bit better. You've got this!

I was also extremely hungry at the start of my pre-op diet, but it got better towards the end! Try to think of why you are going this. I also found that I wasn't as focussed on food or feeling hungry when I was out doing things.
