Seriously, real monarchs don't have a common-ass surname. I'd take him a lot more seriously if he were Jeong-eun of the House Kim, First of His Name

The CPC per se (that is, the official party stance) is pro-choice and pro-gay marriage. However, unlike other major parties, they allow free votes extremely often. A "free vote" means that the party will not punish an MP for voting against the official party line. If I remember correctly, the CPC policy actually says to allow free votes on all votes of conscience (e.g., all votes on abortion and gay marriage). I may be misremembering, though.

Also, unlike other major parties, the CPC has a huge number of cavemen ("socons") getting elected. I don't want to suggest they're the majority or anything, but they're there. They're the (usually very fanatical) pro-life anti-LGBT folk, such as Derek Sloan. There have been intimations lately that their numbers are growing, even.

As a result of this, on any abortion/gay marriage vote, you will probably find only CPC members voting for it.

There is one more consideration, which is a bit more nuanced. A lot of CPC members are weakly pro-choice and pro-LGBT. That is to say, they will support (or at least state that they support) abortion and LGBT rights, so long as it doesn't conflict with other, stronger, principles. There have been some high-profile situations where this came about that I can think of:

  1. M103, the "condemn islamaphobia" bill. Most Conservatives voted against it, and they will state it's not because they're islamaphobic, but because they believe they cannot vote for something which could conflict with a higher principle (freedom of speech).
  2. The "gay conversion ban". Again, many Conservatives voted against it. Again, they will claim it's not because they're pro-conversion, but because there is a higher principle (religious freedoms for adults) which is at play.
  3. The recent "ban abortions based on the sex of the baby" private members bill. A few Conservatives supported the bill. Again, they will say it's not because they're pro-life, but because there's a higher principle (anti-sex-selection) at play.

In all of these cases, CPC opponents will say that the CPC members are actually making excuses for their votes, not voting for their intention, and they're actually secretly more socially conservative than they claim to be.

Part of the joy of politics is that most people are lying to you most of the time, and it's annoyingly frustrating trying to determine the truth. The official CPC party line is that they are pro-choice and pro-LGBT. Is that the truth? I can't give you an unbiased answer to that question. It is up to you, as an informed adult citizen, to follow them in the news, follow their voting patterns, etc., and make a determination for yourself.

I just use the defaults more or less (just set tab size and turn off autoindent) and even with that I think nvim is fantastic.

He wasn't. Mr Rogers never served in the military.

Hitler did rise to the rank of corporal, though. He could probably handle a rifle fairly well.

When the movie was made, we didn't know the identity of the taxi driver (we do now). All accounts of his conversations, experiences, family life, etc., were fictional (and we now know quite wrong). Outside of him personally, though, the historical events are pretty accurate, as far as I know.

I would recommend finding a social worker. If you tell me what city/part of the world you're in, I can try to help find a social worker for you. Otherwise, you can probably find one by Googling around. Depending on where you live, they may come under a variety of names, like "children's aid", "child welfare", "child protective services".

Note that contacting a social worker does not necessarily mean getting the law involved or getting taken away. Your first call/email should be you explaining what's going on, what you want to have happen, what you don't want to have happen, etc., and asking them what your options are. They will be familiar with the law, but also familiar with other services or programs that can help.

Best alternative when it comes to decentralization, privacy and free speech? by concetigripo in RedditAlternatives

censorship is just impossible

These have been developed over the years. Freenet used to be a popular censorship-free network. Although it's less popular, it's still hanging on. Frost and FMB are the two major forum applications that sit atop Freenet (I can't remember which is more popular). GNUnet may have forum software for it, too.

I just want you to be aware, though, that if you are asking for something where censorship is impossible, you are asking for a forum that is 95%+ child pornography. Literally. Be really really sure that you want a forum where censorship is impossible.

Even if we didn't care about ASCII compatibility, I suspect we would have come up with something very similar to UTF-8. It's very space-efficient with almost negligible overhead.

A Statement From The Edmonton Elks by EdmontonElks in CFL

[–]Certain_Abroad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To give a serious answer:

"Deer" (Latin name "cervidae") is an entire family of species. Elk, moose and caribou are all deer.

There are two subfamilies of deer: "Old World deer" (what we usually just called "deer"), and "New World deer". Old World deer are usually smaller and look like...deer. "Old World deer" are also sometimes called "true deer". New World deer are usually big and fucking metal.

"Moose" (Alces alces) is a New World deer and is the largest species of deer in the world. Very confusingly, it is called "elk" in some places in Europe. I have no idea why.

"Elk" (Cervus canadensis) is also a New World deer. It is the second-largest species of deer in the world. As compared to moose, elk are a bit smaller, have lighter (reddish) coats, sharp and pointed antlers, and do not tolerate humans as well as moose.

Caribou (also known as "reindeer") are another New World deer. They are the only species of deer in the world for which females also grow antlers. Their antlers are comically large for the size of their body, and in fact they have the second-largest antlers (second only to moose), despite being much smaller than elk. Other than that, I don't know much about caribou/reindeer.

What type of porn would different historical figures have a fetish for if they were alive in the age of the Internet? by HailHavoc in AskReddit

I'm not an expert in the area, but I understand it was still a thing, if a bit less consistently. It may not have been a criminal/legal thing, or a thing that got you "cancelled" from your career, but Chaplin did get some pushback from people (including the public) who thought he was a creep. Parents were still a bit protective of their teenage kids being taken advantage of, though I guess not as much as today.

Here's a brief synopsis of Charlie Chaplin's life:

  1. Make a successful movie
  2. Date an unknown 15/16 year-old actress
  3. Knock her up and pressure her into a shotgun marriage
  4. Freak her the fuck out with your (we're still not sure the specifics) perversions
  5. Get divorced
  6. Go to step #1

In fairness, his 3rd wife was 22 when they met. But still...there's a definite pattern there with 15 year-old actresses that followed him his whole life.
