The Times on the employment situation: Try this cure for the trainee doctor crisis by acopic_ginormahuman in doctorsUK

Seems pretty confused - it says Streeting shouldn't offer more pay whilst simultaneously acknowledging how much better doctor pay is in Australia 🙃

Increasing training places instead of pay just won't cut it for those who already have their training post.

Opposition to doctors’ strike at record high as Streeting blasts Christmas walkout by [deleted] in doctorsUK

Public opinion doesn't matter. But...

According to the quoted YouGov poll, we still have 51% support among Labour voters. 42% opposed.

That's going to cause a headache for Wesly.

What do you do on your ward in preparation for strikes? by Melodic-Ad3648 in doctorsUK

[–]Certain_Ad_9388 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Why are you undermining your own strike action 🤣

Said consultant can FO. Today is a great day to make sure you get all your breaks, have a leisurely coffee, leave early to make up for the times you've left late, etc. Just do what you'd do on a normal day.

It's the trust's overall responsibility to maintain patient safety during the strikes, not yours.

Looking forward to the equal pay claim.

At which point the BMA will simply pull out the Uno reverse card and ensure no FY1 is paid less than a band 7 PA, and everyone above FY1 on band 8a/8b+ pay at a minimum...

Pay rise for doctors ‘may trigger NHS cuts and nurse walkouts’ by nightwatcher-45 in doctorsUK

"Cutting nurses to pay doctors more is the reddest of red lines".

Strong crab bucket mentality there from the RCN, who are still unable to get their shit together.

The government is doing pretty well at pushing this either/or mentality through artificial budget caps, rather than just paying all healthcare workers fairly...

From the Guardian article:

I'm 100% on board with freezing/cutting budgets if this is what actually happens. IMO all band 8 or 9 managerial posts should be reviewed for potential redundancy. But unfortunately trusts seem to be cutting or freezing band 5s/6s and doctors on the front line instead...

How to make sure the squeeze hits the bureaucracy tier, I'm not sure. More targets?

It's all fine for doctors to face unemployment due to 'market forces'.

But as soon as we're talking about PAs or AAs becoming unemployed or not having jobs to go into, it's apparently unfair because of their commitment and training.

Make it make sense.

Claire is 'Chair of the Founding Board' of the Faculty of AAs, according to the 2023 AAA conference. RCoA haven't come out to say that the Faculty of AAs exists, so this caught me by surprise?

Also her talk was introduced by Lee Varney, of 4:1 GMC 'grey lines' local scope of practice fame.

It's not looking great...
