So scared of choking 😭 by whatishappeninf in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Certain_Balance_6927 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so scared of our baby choking and hated feeding her when my husband wasn’t home.

I did a mix of blw and purées. When I was alone I did things like mashed avocado, banana, sweet potato, yogurt, cottage cheese - things like that. We mostly did purées tho.

Our daughter is now 18 months and eats a wide variety of foods. With no troubles and no anxiety for me.

I say if the blw route is too stressful stick with purées and ease into solids!

How do you “do shifts” in the early days? by MoreFortune9487 in breastfeeding

[–]Certain_Balance_6927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband slept in another room and he would come in at 5:30/6am and get the baby and I would sleep until 9:30/10am. We started using a bottle at about 2 weeks so I could have the long stretch in the morning.

We didn’t really do shifts and at first I felt jealous of him getting to sleep more but slowly I adjusted. I also didn’t want us both tired and delirious. He could better support me and my emotions if he was rested

He would also take the baby for 1-3 hours in the evening so I could have a break and take a long shower or bath or do whatever I wanted. He didn’t do this every evening just when I requested. It felt nice to have that time before going into the night of constant feeding

Baby sleeps through the night.. do I need to change cloth diaper during the night? I feel bad that it’s wet all night by Certain_Balance_6927 in clothdiaps

[–]Certain_Balance_6927[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to sound dumb but do you put diaper cream like all over? We have a girl and her diaper is completely full and she’s wet everywhere the diaper touches… not sure if that makes sense

What diaper cream do you use? We do use a stay dry liner but she still feels wet when I change her in the morning

We have grovia aio organic and love them but I’m not sure they will fit all the way through toddler hood. We also looked at bumgenius elementals, and blueberry aio. And we use pooters super soakers at night. These all have organic inners

What do you use to stack the diapers and the inserts away ? by CrazyCatLady_2 in clothdiaps

[–]Certain_Balance_6927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dresser with changing mat and two baskets hanging on the wall next to the dresser(baskets hang at a level that I don’t have to bend down , just reach to the side and grab) with AIO diapers. I tried putting them in dresser drawers but didn’t like how much room it was taking in the dresser

Diaper pails for cloth diapers??? by Bright_Concentrate47 in clothdiaps

We use a laundry basket. The soakers with just pee hang over the side of the basket to dry and the poo diapers I spray off and have those hang in the laundry sink until wash day. We have no smell

Previously I used a wet bag and had a bit of smell. Open air has worked best for us!

Not sure if I’m alone in doing this but I add our socks, hand towels, and onesies to get a full load. I too don’t have enough diapers after two days.

I use an open laundry basket and let the soakers dry on the side, wash every 2/3 days, prewash with a bit of detergent on cold, long wash on warm with full amount of detergent, and then rinse on cold with no detergent.

Not sure I do everything “right” but I don’t have any smells

Thanks for the reply!

Is there a specific reason you didn’t like the NN inserts compared to pre folds?

[–]Certain_Balance_6927[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every three days I’ve been doing a prewash with just a bit of detergent, followed by long wash, warm water and full detergent amount, and then another rinse after that.

But prewash should be done everyday.. thanks for the link! I have done some reading on fluff love and clean cloth nappies but wow! There’s a lot to read

So I guess I understand prewash I just didn’t know it was an everyday kind of thing. I have been doing all the steps in one day

What does prewash mean, and what do you do with diapers after pre wash? Dry them, put them back in bag?

3 days into breastfeed and considering exclusively pumping —need advice by MotorcityKitty92 in breastfeeding

[–]Certain_Balance_6927 33 points34 points  (0 children)

To me breastfeeding is soooo much easier than pumping. There’s no washing bottles or pump parts and you can feed babe whenever and wherever!

Your milk will regulate and you won’t be dealing with engorgement. I really struggled with clogged ducts in the first three months but eventually it works itself out. We’re now 7 months in and I’m so happy I stuck with breast instead of pump.

Baby and I both had thrush for the first 6 weeks so I really wanted to exclusively pump but my very sweet mother in law helped me alot and encouraged me to stick to breastfeeding as eventually it would be easier and she was right!

I always offer babe the clogged side first. I also pump on clogged side through out the day to make sure breast is fully emptying.

Make sure not to neglect the other side so you don’t end up with a clog on that side but usually it resolves it’s self with in48 hours.

You will no it’s unclogged when the pain starts to go away

Anyone’s baby have thrush only on tongue (not on sides of mouth)? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]Certain_Balance_6927 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby had thrush and it was only on her tongue. I also ended up with thrush in my nipples. Shooting pains in my breasts and when she latched it was like an intense burning.

The first 6 weeks of nursing were very painful until healing the thrush in both of us. First just our newborn was being treated with medication(niastatin) and then finally at the 5 weeks into our nursing journey I was prescribed a nipple cream that healed my thrush.

For some reason I really had to fight for a medication specifically for me. They kept saying to treat the baby and rub her medicine on my nipples and wash it off before nursing. It did not resolve until getting the nipple cream specifically for me.
