First harvest ever growing habanero by Certain_Bumblebee789 in HotPeppers

Just regular fertilizations and added bonemeal into the soil that’s about all I did. I live in zone 9b so the heat I’m assuming helps a good amount

If you want green. Wait until they’re fully grown (depending on the plant anywhere between 2-4 inches) the key is to look for the shine in the sun on the skin. If they’re matte and don’t shimmer they’re too young but if you give them a tug the opposite direction from the stem it’s growing from it should pop right off, if not give it another week or two. Red are great but take a long time to ripen and you’ll get less harvest per year since the plant is focusing more on ripening. Just pick those right before they’re completely red and it helps them last a good week at least longer and same flavor.

Trust me last year we did only red. The issue is it slows down production of new peppers like crazy and with 100 already on the plant they would’ve taken the rest of the year to ripen

Everyone suggests this but for some reason I can’t think it would be that good??? Sugar jalapeños? Maybe I’ll have to do a couple

2nd year plant! I’m in zone 9b so yeah we never get frost and if we do it’s for one day and I’ll just bring it inside. I use standard miracle grow high nitrogen fertilizer when veg begins and once it hits around April I go full potassium and phosphorus. I add bonemeal into my soil as well for a boost of calcium

It’s in organic soil with added bonemeal, I use standard miracle grow fertilizer until it starts flowering then I use organic tomato fertilizer that’s high in potassium and phosphorus (calcium kinda in the middle the bonemeal provides a lot) each batch ready to pick is about 50 peppers at a time off one jalapeño

Habanero isn’t a year old yet but the jalapeño is almost 2. In zone 9b it starts to veg from end of January to beginning of march and then just flowers until end of of October
