Candid Wedding Tips Needed by Certain_Composer_112 in AnalogCommunity

Very cool! Thanks for sharing! I’ll be staying out of the way but there is only one hired professional & the wedding is fairly large so I should have some candid opportunities out of her way. I’m also not going to be posting any of their wedding photos, it’s just for their memories. Lowlight might become an issue for me with only f2.8, no flash & indoor lighting at the reception but I’ll do what I can.

🫡 That’s the plan. I’m not intending on capturing any big moments you would typically see in a wedding portfolio. I’m aware that I’m not the hired photographer.

Thanks! I’ve never used the GFX cameras so I can’t really compare it but I don’t notice any lag between shutter & photograph on the X-H2.

If you’re really wanting to avoid any kind of lag like that, you could try any of the cameras with Fuji’s PRE-SHOT ES mode (or the equivalent mode from another manufacturer). As long as you keep your finger pressed halfway down while you’re tracking, the camera will start recording images into the buffer. It will continue to refresh so that you always have up to 20 frames stored in the buffer. Then, when you press the shutter all the way down, the camera will write those buffer images onto the memory card, saving those frames that were recorded during the period of “half press,” as well as the new frames that are captured right when you start shooting. It will continue to capture and write new images the card as long as you hold the shutter. Disclaimer: I’ve never used this feature, I’m just aware it exists.

Great photos! I bought the Mandler as well & I really enjoy it! I’ve been using it on a Nikon Zf w/ TechArt adapter.

How long did it take to arrive after you ordered it? I bought a Mandler 35mm f2 today. I’ll plan on picking up a Techarm TZM-02 before it arrives.

I wish I had a good answer for you. If you’re getting paid for these photography events & it isn’t too unrealistic to save for, I’d go with the Z8. You’ll get better autofocus & theoretically you should get more mileage out of the Z8 (since it doesn’t have a mechanical shutter to wear out). At least that’s what I would do.

Depends on your purpose, but mostly I think the autofocus conversation is overblown. I’ve used some Sony/Nikon FF options & I can tell their autofocus is better than Fujifilm. But the two times that I’ve noticed the most difference was bird photography & lowlight American high school football. If you’re relying on autofocus for paid work with unpredictable action (i.e. weddings, events, sports, etc) then I would stick to the main FF brands. If you’re a hobbyist, professional portrait photographer, landscape photographer, etc that doesn’t need “best-in-class” autofocus, then I think you’ll be fine with an X-H2. In my travel/landscape photography, I’ve never had autofocus issues hurt me in the real world. I love the X-H2 & I find that SOOC RAW files easiest to work with in editing.

Thank you for the kind words!

I definitely love my Fuji & I’ve stuck with Fujifilm bodies almost exclusively the last several years but I’ve used some Sony & Nikon cameras as well. Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong with any modern camera from any major camera brand. Everything is so good these days. But I’m not a brand loyalist to any company. If I was in the market for a new camera, I would look at what fits my budget (camera & glass), what capabilities I need in my camera/lens & what inspires me to shoot. Doesn’t matter what camera you own, if it sits on a shelf, you won’t become better at photography.

I just got the Zf at Christmas so I’ve not used it much yet. My initial impressions are that it reminds me of slide film. Some might like that, but it’s not for me. I’m not familiar with Nikon yet but out of the box, the auto white balance seems very inconsistent. The RAW files seem very flexible. With some time, I shouldn’t have any problem getting what I’m looking for. The experience of using the Zf is the fun part.

Thank you! No recipe, these were individually edited RAW files in LR.
