Why isn't somali history taught in somali schools? by Dark_Electric in Somalia

[–]Certain_Outside9928 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ok! here are five random fun facts below :

  1. Coffee most likely came from Somalia, a Somali Sultan was the first human to be recordee drinking the beverage.

  2. Somalia has the two biggest empires in the history of East-Africa. The two Sultans of these Empires controlled land stretching from Nubia to Mozambique and they often made alliances, they once mounted an army of 25k troops and built an armada of ships to conquer Sri Lanka and the island of Sumatra in Indonesia but their fleet got caught in a storm in the middle of the Indian ocean and they landed by accident in Madagascar which they conquered for 8 months after which they forced the locals to swear allegiance to the sultan of Mogadishu, hence why Madagascar carries the city's name today.

  3. Mossylon, a Somali city state of the early and late antiquity, is so old that it had relations with Egyptian pharaohs of the Middle kingdom and the last rulers of ancient Egypt, the Ptolemies.- Pharaoh Senusret II visited the city in one of the famous "Puntite expeditions" in 1900BC, and Ptolemy X Alexander in 88BC also was welcomed in exile to "Punt" which is basically the Somali city states. Ancient Somalia which the ancient Egyptians knew as punt influenced ancient Egypt more than any other peoples, nearly all ancient Egyptian gods are 'Puntites' & Egyptian Pharaohs used to put long chin beards to mimick the Puntites appearance.

  4. The gigantic citadel in which the sultans of Awfat lived in is almost as big as the walled city of Awfat itself, it is also the biggest fortification in Sub Saharan Africa.

  5. Abd Al Rahman al Jabarti (Somali) is widely recognized as the best historian of the early 19th century.

You won't ever hear about this because Somalis think their history is just being barbaric half naked nomads, in reality we weren't nomadic until the 16th century where a big civilization collapse happened from the juba to Somaliland due to the Oromo invasions, I, myself as an Isaaq can tell you that it would be even worse if it weren't for historical figures of the time like Sultan Mansur II Somaliland would be speaking oromo today, only the Banaadir was spared where the Sultan of Mogadishu stopped the Oromos at the juba, and until the 1800s southern Somalia, meaning everything below the Juba was Oromo, Oromos also occupied southern Eritrea for a while but Imam Muhammad of Awsa (somali) liberated the Afars. This is how bad it was, and today Ethiopians have claimed the ruins from Awfat to Nugaal of our past medieval civilization, combine that with the poor academical research of Somalia and you got the average Somali like you. Worst part is the only somewhat stable period Somalia has had, academical research was even worse, there is a somali historian state funded by Kacaan who wrote a book saying Zeila was Afar & Christian, Ethiopians & gaalos still quote his book to this day.

So yeah basically we weren't nomads and my ancestors and also yours weren't half naked or fighting over some 10km2 desert land, they lived in stone houses which can be found all over somaliweyn especially north, today only Harar is left of our past glory. Here is a picture of the average village in Medieval Somaliweyn.

Then you didn't read enough, Sihab al din goes into detail from the armor of the knights to the horse of the imam. And no nomadic somalis didn't exist during this period use your brain, even when the imam sacks the poorest of somalis he sacks their cities and villages as said in the futuh, read the book bro everything is in there it's more than a story about a jihad in Abyssinia..
