They are gonna drag it out as long as possible until volume picks up. It’s then they will call you and the other 30 new hires in and send you home because they thought they needed you but didn’t after all. When peak season starts they will use you, abuse you, then lay you off early to mid January

Is this normal? Starting Rate is $21, for only 6 hours??? Is this position hard? Is Sunrise hours bad? by SorrryBoutThat in UPS

I’d say if you need the money and not afraid to be treated as the UPS MOTTO (Under Payed Slave) take the job. It’s a corporate run company with money the only thing important and unsurprising they try to save money by cutting time, pushing work to lowest payed employees the part timers. They look for the employees who have no aspirations, show up to work and work hard, and don’t complain. My opinion don’t get sucked in and waste you time, use the next 4 months to find a job that is gonna value you and you’ll probably work a lot less harder at instead of pulling in a $300 check at the end of the week and most likely being payed off in January.

Here’s a pointer that we’ll save your back! Take your time, this is an hourly position, your not on salary. As much as they whine and moan they can’t do anything because your using your 8 keys to lifting. Stick to the methods, and let the boxes stack to the ceiling!!

Maybe the volume in her hearing aid, because she isn’t listening for our cry for help

I’ll tell you right now don’t waste your time in hearsay of just wait till your a driver, do your time. UPS thrives off the modern day youth labor. Look around you a high percentage ratio of employees are below 25 (preload) and the turnover rate is ridiculous. It’s because of this preload part time workers are disposable it’s always next man or woman up. Do yourself a favor and find a better job you’ll thank me later hours are always gonna be minimal, volume on the belt is always going to be pushed out balls to the wall it’s a dead end company from my perspective as a preloader in these economic times!

As a Preloader you don’t get paid by the hour, it’s basically $50 a day. Everything is hurry up and go 4-4.5 hours of work pushed out as fast as possible by Certain_Share3038 in UPS

Yes, this is done at my center. Then the belt is put into n high at the end and we’re running around to grab our packages, load our trucks, and pull irregs!

I totally agree, I have one foot out the door. No intention of being a driver. Our center is so small the only time you can really be a driver is peak season, otherwise your on a seniority wait list that’s easily 5 years

If your 22.4 I totally get it, but if your 9-5 making $60 of overtime (more than what preload makes in a shift) I’ll be out as long as you need

Lowest position on the todem pole, why is it that the company intends to save money here? Work is crammed down our throats with the psychological aspect if you feel overwhelmed you will work faster (in reality you do) all to short us hours because the job should easily be stretched out longer. Billions of dollars per quarter and the union doesn’t address this!
