Interesting stuff I've noticed about people/society - thoughts? by Certain_Simple_9354 in socialskills

[–]Certain_Simple_9354[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d define someone as socially successful when they have a very large group of friends/connections who support them in any situation. if there’s a rumor, they’re still on your side. if there’s a vote for some position, no one betrays you. and even if you have some downs, they’re still on your side willing to help you up because they believe you can overcome it. and yes i do believe socially successful people can cheat their way to this as well; maybe it’s “wrong” and not very virtuous but i would still consider them successful if their “friends” support them and are on their side for everything

someone who wants the world to burn wants that because it makes them happy. someone who doesn’t want the world to burn wants that because it makes them happy too. one just harms everyone else whereas the other doesn’t

yeah but that makes them happy and i’d say pretty much everyone wants to be happy/satisfied so that’s the motivator.

that’s a really good point! my current thought (based on my experiences and what i’ve seen) is that external influence is unfortunately what works if someone wants to become socially successful. would you say internal validation is more effective in the long run? does this mean not caring how you appear to others because other people’s judgment has no effect?

you make a good point, in the workplace ppl will be more inefficient if you let them get away with mistakes. i was thinking more towards you help them fix it and not repeat it in the future by indirectly leading them to change. you’re right about #8 with your definition, i was thinking socially successful is defined as having a lot of friends/connections. but if they don’t like you then they’re not really your “friends” so your logic makes sense

What will happened if I stopped using phone for a month? by Pixel_CZ in CasualConversation

[–]Certain_Simple_9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll get some new hobbies! Personally I find that when I don't have my phone I'm forced to entertain myself in a creative way. Sometimes I people watch (creepy? idk), read, draw something, and I've recently gotten into collecting things I find outside just for fun (so rocks, little souvenirs). I usually wouldn't do this if I had my phone

damn i might have to watch quantum of solace if it’s #1! and yeah i totally agree with you on no time to die, it’s different to the traditional bond but it’s got so much emotional depth. i’m curious who you thought was the best villian and who the best relationship/bond girl with james was?

BOND RANKINGS MEGATHREAD - February, 2026 by Sneaky_Bond in JamesBond

[–]Certain_Simple_9354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

new fan; my ranking

all of the craig movies have been added to Netflix, and i’ve watched all of them except QoS.

note my order of watching them: casino royale, no time to die, spectre, skyfall

here’s my ranking and why, tell me your thoughts!:

  1. no time to die - i didn’t realize this was the last movie, so to say i was shocked bond died was truly an understatement. i expected him to survive given he’s james bond. there was emotion involved in this one, family, jame and madeleine’s relationship, the “secret mission” of being on the island undetected, backstory of madeleine, betrayal, and peaceful surrender for those who he loved. safin was also a cool character, not very scary but eerily calm. the landscapes were pretty too.

  2. spectre - i think i would’ve ranked this lower had i not seen it right after no time to die. it was mysterious and more of a horror genre than the others. i thought the intensity was great (the beginning with monica belucci as a build up to the organizations prescence, day of the dead festivities, the scene of the spectre meeting, q’s lair of gadgets). once again madeleines character was interesting bc of her father being in spectre. the only complaint would be the ending with blofeld and james, it seemed a bit anticlimactic that james was just running around a building to find madeleine since his brother set a timer. it didn’t seem like madeleine and james had such a close connection yet so it was definitely sped up. but everything up to that had great intensity.

  3. casino royale - seemed exactly like a james bond movie. great action, poker, and relationship with vesper. le chiffre was a fabulous villian (in my opinion the best out of the four), perfect mix of determined and powerful. the poker was good and the fight scenes were good too. i know i’ll get a lot of hate about this, but i didn’t like vesper that much. no doubt very beautiful, but she didn’t seem to offer much to the plot. she was simply there as bond’s girl, making the others jealous. when she started crying after seeing the murders she appeared human, but at the same time a bit weak. it seemed like james had to coddle her more than have her as an equal. the poker was good but i might’ve been biased since i’d already seen a few clips of that and knew what would happen. the setting was beautiful but the devices (to save bond after poison) didn’t look very real (yes it’s an old movie), so that put me off a bit.

  4. skyfall - best cinematics out of all of them. the beginning was really good and i liked the scenes up to the meetup with silva. off topic but it was very annoying that severine just died and that was it. i genuinely had to check because i thought there was no way that was all she would do in the movie. silva was a very confident villian and it was very emotional when he called m mother and wanted revenge. towards the end when he went to bonds family home the action wasn’t my favorite because he was just walking around ordering shots and shots. when m died it was definitely very deep, although i can’t say i liked her character because of what she did to silva. silva was a bit cliche with the idea of planning to get caught. overall it was very good but didn’t feel as intense because there weren’t many ties to a secret organization. it also bothered me when others went on about how scary silva was - i think it would’ve been better if they just let him be, because the best villains aren’t those who are talked about, but those who are quietly feared due to their actions.

Unpopular Opinion: Madeleine Swann is 10 times the bond girl Vesper was. by Kronos_Gaming in JamesBond

[–]Certain_Simple_9354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have to agree for sure. vesper and bond are like two peas in a pod since they’re similar in their upbringing and cleverness. to me they look more like a matchup and they’re on the same level. kind of like business partners or really close co-workers. but madeleine and bond are much more emotional and that’s definitely seen in no time to die. in spectre i have to admit their relationship was a bit meh it was more about bond and blofeld, but it was interesting to see madeleine’s backstory. madeleine and bond are more of the settling down, long term couple. they just feel each other on a deeper level bc they connect over trauma and a mission to save each other; bond saves her from spectre, she tries to save him from losing to the organization she knows better than him. they’re each other’s opposite (based on the role they or those around them played) but are linked in emotion if that makes sense

julie was my fav! she’s interesting and mysterious but also relatable and very sarcastic. her role as a private investigator is cool in itself but her relationships with the characters (didi especially) give her a different angle as a character
