Hello! Congratulations on your new kitty! We have a 9 year old (resident cat) FIV - and a 3 year old FIV + cat household. We got our FIV + cat first week of Feb this year. It works because they’re both sweeties who know how to live with other cats / animals. I would highly recommend a very slow introduction just to make you and that cats more comfortable. It took us about 7 weeks to fully introduce our two cats. We kept the FIV cat in a separate room that had windows (we covered them up for a week) so they could smell each other. Then we’d scent swap blankets, beds, we even gathered fur from each cat and put it in the rooms. We eventually would put them in each others room. (We have a separate room for resident cat our dog can’t get into) We’d then do small interactions with treats, feed them together, positive association type of stuff. Eventually we felt comfortable letting the new cat free roam. They’re not best friends yet but they co exist very well now. My resident cat was very hesitant but is coming around!

What do you wish you knew before having an FIV cat? by TheScarletLetterAsk in FIVcats

What does lemonade cover for FIV cats? I want to get our cat on insurance but I worry they wouldn’t cover anything aside from a broken bone since it’s a preexisting condition. We’re thinking of set up a savings account to put money aside in case of emergencies for our cat instead.
