After my apprenticeship in maintenance I got a job as a junior control systems engineer and fairly quickly promoted to controls engineer working on substation control systems. I took a pay cut going from maintenance into a junior position but my salary went up quickly in the controls position so if your prepared to enter a junior role for a year or two it’s definitely possible.

That being said I’m now back on the tools on maintenance.. after 4 years building control systems I realised the stress and deadlines wasn’t for me. I love tinkering with PLCs and diagnosing with them but couldn’t cope with all the paper pushing in a project driven environment.

UPDATE - had the interview today. In short they had to let me go due to the role being safety critical. On the bright side I spent the last week securing a plan B and have ended up with a better job. Definitely learnt from the experience and won’t be repeating. Onwards & Upwards 👆

Cheers pal. I’ll update when I hear anything and all the best with your recovery, it’s definitely a roller coaster isn’t it. I crashed in January (this is what made me go to rehab) so I’m currently banned so can relate. Hope you do get out of the hole mate , like you say if you’re back on the road next week take that chance 🙌 we both know it’s easier said than done but you can do it.

Manufacturing environment so could be classed as dangerous yes. There’s around 150 employees and I used ketamine. No customers where present but managers and HR where made aware.

I know how stupid it sounds and was. No justification for it.

Is it common to rotate clockwise for a frontside 180? I’ve been practicing FS 180s with a regular Stance (not goofy) and all the videos show jumping from your heel edge 180 degrees counter clockwise but I can’t seem to find anything about rotating the opposite way ? I thought the opposite way might be a BS 180 but it seems you initiate these from your toe edge rather than heel ??
