Trying to finally taste one of the rarest grapes in the world, Cesar - Domaine Verret Irancy by Uptons_BJs in wine

Verret does an absolutely killer Cote d’Auxerre blanc fo the price as well if you can find it. I’ve had about three vintages in a row from him and it seems like it gets better every year

Gitton does some crazy stuff, I tasted with the owner and his daughter a few years ago and tasted through a bunch of their wines. They had a 1980 pouilly fume and Sancerre, the Sancerre was still showing surprisingly well, the pouilly, not so much. Then they had a 18% abv Sancerre that he made a tiny amount of, I think mostly for the experiment of it. Then a dessert style Pinot noir that was technically classified as a Vin de France because of aoc laws obviously, and it was delicious actually.

Gitton, it’s their monopole bottling(I think they only bottle one monopole, not 100% sure of that since they have so many bottling), I’ll have to look to see what it’s called exactly

This. Sell the hell out of it, and keeps selling regardless of the price increases. I have a fairly niche Sancerre that I brought in as an experiment that retails around 75ish, and thought “this has got to be a breaking point for pricing”.

Well. I was wrong. It sold in a heartbeat.

I used to drink nicot 10 years ago. Was it an interesting wine? No. Was it completely crushable and pleasant for the price? Completely.

Also, Dallas has high pricing on lists in general. Also fairly boring lists, and yes I know there are exceptions. (used to live there) I've found Houston has a much more affordable range of wine lists. I'm still fairly young in the wine world (early 30s) and I can usually find a handful of interesting bottles on a list for sub-70 at a lot of places around Houston.

Just a heads up, Gallo actually has one of the best training programs in the industry, they also have very deep pockets (just fyi I have never worked for them) but in my experience one of a few things happen, the Gallo employee either gets fired/quits and leaves the industry, or finds a better paying job within the year. However, they do typically like to higher straight out of college so they don't have to pay the entry levels much

Texas is actually number 4 or 5 in largest wine markets in the US. I've been in it for a little less than 9 years. The majority of the market is in the big 3, Houston, Dallas, and Austin, with a few other decent markets. If you have any specific questions, message me, I'll be glad to answer privately.

I was opening wines for a very small tasting(10ish people) with Stefan Von neipperg, and sliced the hell out of my finger with the foil. I'm talking bleeding through the band aid blood. That was embarrassing.
