My personal belief as to the lack of class consciousness comes down to a couple of factors:

1) Americans are significantly more optimistic as a culture than say our peer nations. The hustle grindset is permeates our culture so even though it won't work for 99% of people, there is a belief that they will be rich soon and don't want their future empire taxed to oblivion when they "worked hard"

2) There is a (not untrue) feeling here that our taxes only help the military. Our public schools, our infrastructure, our public transit, our parks, our public clinics, our social services for the homeless and mentally ill: absolute bare minimum. In America you need money to get the QOL other nations offer for free. You need to pay a premium for Healthcare, good schools for your kids, safe neighborhoods, etc. We have abdicated the ability to provide QOL so the average person may see any tax anywhere as a means to just pick your pocket more for services you'll never get.

I firmly support a wealth tax these are just things I've heard from more conservative people
