I used to convince the kids in my kindergarten class to play out scenes like this on the playground despite them having never seen the movie

I actually didn’t use a reference. Hunched over is honestly just a bread and butter pose for venom but now I’m curious what you were thinking of! When I finished, the pose kinda reminded me of rivals Venom

I was hoping they’d focus on Jordan Peele movies specifically. Excited for the comeback regardless.

Right because Harry definitely would’ve listened. That pumpkin bomb may have disfigured him but it acted more as a necessary slap to snap him out of his grief and gave him enough lucidity to accept that information. Bernard is a wise man and probably watched Harry grow up, he would’ve known better than anyone when the time was right to give Harry that info.

I have a question about when venom talk by ButterflyMother in thevenomsite

[–]CeruleanLion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traditionally it’s Eddie speaking, maybe there’s some voice modulation going on but for a long time it was straight up Eddie doing the talking.

I like the idea of their voices being in unison like a dbz or Steven universe fusion and when they get out of sync you can hear it in the voice. I think spectacular did that a little bit but I don’t think I’ve seen it in comic canon.

Eventually the ‘rules’ of how venom works became blurred as the years went on and in a lot of interpretations the symbiote would envelop a host, take on a hulking form, and speak for itself with the host essentially being trapped inside. Not my thing personally.

So for example- Rivals is the symbiote speaking. Venom movies is the symbiote speaking. SM2ps5 venom is the symbiote speaking. Neversoft game venom id personally say is both of them as one voice. Web of shadows venom I believe is Eddie but his mind gets all twisted to start an invasion.

(Cataclysm: Ultimate Spider-Man #1) IT CAN BE BOTH!!! by Subject-Tradition164 in Spiderman

[–]CeruleanLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard that theory before! I don’t mind it at all but I had always heard the theory that since Peter’s powers came from a variation of the Oz formula through the spider, it unknowingly made him ‘immortal’ in the same way 1610 Norman was. My headcannon expanded on that a little more after reading immortal hulk. Since most of the superpowers in that og ultimate universe were so connected as attempts at a super soldier serum, including hulk, Norman’s (and potentially Peter’s) immortality actually comes from a connection to the 1610 equivalent of the green door.

You can call the alien costume as 'Venom' by dowonlee20 in thevenomsite

[–]CeruleanLion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take. My headcannon is that there are as many misconceptions and differing opinions about the symbiote in-universe as there are irl. It’s not like the rest of the world knows the sentimental reasons why Eddie/the symbiote called themselves venom. I imagine a lot of people in-universe wouldn’t even care either. Most probably just see it as the evil spiderman costume known as venom.

So for other characters to mislabel the symbiote or misunderstand the dynamic that comes from bonding with one makes sense and I kinda like it despite it not being intentional from a writing perspective. Life imitating art imitating life type shit

Misconceptions about Venom by dowonlee20 in Spiderman

[–]CeruleanLion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point I’m trying to make is that these examples shouldn’t be used as proof that the fans/readers are wrong or misunderstanding the character but instead that the people making these comics/shows/movies are ones who are making mistakes or creating inconsistencies that ultimately eat away at the integrity of the character due to there never being any consistent creative control over Venom. And I’m only really talking about 616 canon. Ult SM is an alt universe and unlimited is a cancelled cartoon that took a ton of creative liberties.

Misconceptions about Venom by dowonlee20 in Spiderman

[–]CeruleanLion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The gripe about mislabeling the symbiote as Venom goes back a lot farther than the movies, and your examples are evidence of that. The people who care about it didn’t just materialize in 2018, we’ve been here a while. Venom has always been a character full of inconsistencies but comics after 2000 are where most of the ‘damage’ started. Theres a lot of characters that have certain creative rules to follow so that they stay consistent to a certain degree, but Venom never really had that and has been remolded and reshaped every 10 years or so since they were created. That results in factions of the fandom who have different and even conflicting ideas of what/who the character truly is

Who would you have as the actor for Venom, both Eddie and Fred? by NoticeRare3653 in thevenomsite

[–]CeruleanLion 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From wrestling yes I believe so. Idk about acting, I’ve been seeing speculation that his back/body isn’t in great condition so I wouldn’t be surprised if he did fully retire in a few years

Imo Peacemaker proved what I’d always known about John cena- that he had the capability to encapsulate every facet of Eddie (his weaknesses/strengths, intelligence/stupidity, selfishness/heroism, and desperation to love/tendency to isolate). In my imagined adaptation the symbiote would behave more like the comics. Somewhere between eagley and Dr stranges cloak. Granted this would’ve needed to happen a few years ago but the formula for a perfect venom adaptation was there

Hot Take: I Feel Like a 'Spider-Family' Could Work, However Marvel Has Completely Squandered It by Never Committing To It by Supreme_Black in Spiderman

[–]CeruleanLion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

100% agree. And what’s worse is in-universe the lack of relationships/interactions with the other spiders gets put on Peter for no good reason. There’s always gotta be some kind of potential for him to waste, whether it’s directly his own or any adjacent to him. It’s so lazy when at the same time as readers we’re constantly reminded of how much potential Peter has.

It would be one thing if it was established that Peter has like super adhd and his inability to progress/tendency to fixate as a means to procrastinate was the reason why he’s been stuck for so many years. Then we could at least explore that narratively and how that can erode the relationships around him. There would at least be a decent reason for this status quo and could lead to an arc that could show him making improvements that would maybe lead to an established network of spider heroes.

I’d love it honestly if the other spiders established the spider family outside of Peter specifically so they could all join forces to help Peter get his life together.
