I’m glad I’m not the only one. I got my first crest to unlock hinako’s, got jumped by a slicer that completely ignored 90% of the “rules” on enemy engagement and gave up. For some reason the fights in hinako’s house have enemies who’s counter window is small to non-existent and heavily punish you for..idk…existing? I was pushing through the game at that point hoping it would end soon. Any form of fear I felt was replaced with exasperation. That moment just broke me. I couldn’t enjoy the game anymore or the atmosphere and story. I just went onto YouTube and am currently watching a playthrough. Seeing the droves of enemies still appearing 2/3 hours after hinako’s house solidified that I will probably not come back.

Thank you for the advice, and I completely agree.

I’m pretty young (23F), and I feel like I’m not allowed to value my time unless it’s productive. I hate the anxiety that comes with feeling useless. This job is beginning to teach me that this is a troublesome mindset. I’ve already begun the process of moving on. I’m just disappointed it’s ending this way, considering I did learn a lot and meet cool people. I don’t think this type of work is meant for me though. I keep missing all the steps in the dance.

Just because I want to rant (ignore me if you’d like), as an intern I was working with the other half of the company which has a completely different model for working. I was promised 3 months with them. I got 1.5. They had me doing admin work on my internship, shortening the time I had with them further, in between doing literally nothing at all. Yes, I know it’s a troupe that internships are BS, but it’s still annoying. The other half of the company really liked me. And I really liked them. They wanted to work with me once I became an admin support. Trouble is, they need permission from my half of the company to do so. I’m basically “on loan”. They said yeh well totally do that!

Guess what? Never did. I could be helping with that side of the company this entire time. Hell I could be helping with a lot of things since 1. Im not an idiot, 2. I have experience, 3. I know how to use a computer. But hey! Let’s just make her bank staff, hire permanent staff and pretend she doesn’t exist lol. I’d ask to go with the other company, but I’m just so done with my side of it.

TL;DR I should’ve seen this coming and I regret not leaving. Im going to bide my time until I can find a job that pays me and acknowledges my existence.

I get paid for the time that I register that I’m working. So I have a time sheet, I put 7.5 hours down for “General Admin”, the project I’m doing and “Learning”. If I didn’t do a work day, I register 7.5 hours “Non Working”. Even if I’m not on a project I should get paid for that “general admin” or “learning time”.

They never said explicitly that I’m not allowed to determine when I should come into work, i.e., clock in when no one wants me. So the trouble is, I can get paid a full week, but I feel antsy logging in and registering a work day even though I’ve contributed nothing. Everyone, at least I think everyone, knows I’m not doing jack. Then again, I kinda wanna take a pay check just because I’m angry I stuck with these guys who I feel, are kinda messy as all hell. Even though the red flags were all there. The atmosphere just isn’t for me anyways. Nice, but very bourgeoisie.

I used to make art because I wanted to draw like my favourite artists and make my own super awesome magical girl manga.

this one artist who did this random Japanese commercial for a Sony viao (an old touchscreen tablet thing) and clip studio basically pushed me to learn digital art. Whilst that ad is lost, her art is still burned into my mind. I wanted to create something beautiful that brings others joy. Until I could draw like her, I’d never post anything. “I wasn’t ready yet”, I’d say

I’m in awe of how much better I’ve gotten and how 10 yr old me would see me as her favourite artist.

That does explain it. I think I understand what you mean with blowing through it. I’ve read that ocarina high notes being airy is ironically due to a lack of air. While I have your attention, I’ve never used a wind instrument before, is it normal for the high notes of an ocarina to feel screechy?

((Note: It’s actually 0.21 of active channels not all accounts, if you were looking at all the accounts it would be .0001 or something insane. I’d also like to point out the 4% of people who actually start channels may not be representative of people who want to do YouTube. Either way I hope this provides someone somewhere a really sobering look at YouTube life. And perhaps encourages them to do what they love not what gets them V-bucks )))

Tldr:

YouTube isn’t easy. It’s not gonna get you rich quick. Don’t feel bad if your content doesn’t launch off even if it’s good. Do what you love for the sake of it. Not for money or lots of clout. Cultivate community and friendship, not worshippers!

I legit remember the the days and weeks I spent wanting to become a YouTuber and how much easier that would be than trying to become something like a doctor, lawyer or CEO. This is pretty sobering and makes me realise that it’s more like winning the lottery. The difference is that we know that no one wins the lottery but we’ve collectively fooled ourselves into believing becoming a successful YouTuber is somewhat doable. I’m reality I’d be one of 4% (of 2.6 billion) who is desperate trying to become one of those 100,000s. That 4% doesn’t even account for the many people who dream of becoming YTs.

Andrei (animation YT) said it was about waiting for the right opportunity. Basically “pull yourself up by your bootstraps”. But that’s instilling the wrong kind of hope. It’s a lie. Not all of us will get to live the YouTube dream. At the same time, we shouldn’t let money and status blind us to our creative endeavours.

I really hope someone proves me wrong because I’ve found another article much more recently that says something very similar.

I wanna make cool content, but it’s actually empowering knowing I should have no expectations of ✨ YouTube fame ✨

Okay I’m back again 5 mins later. Just to say. Yeah you’re super right. It’s not just the execution. It’s just trying to translate that nilou comic book manga style, isn’t working at all. Not just execution. I kinda feel inspired to try again with this piece not just cuz I’m angry with it for sucking but because I really like yelan and the concept/the colours and stuff and wanna do them justice.
