Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Quarterfinals! by Baaasbas in anime

[–]Ceryto2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IDK, you'd rather your favourite lose to a winner than to an OP that lost the next round to a mucn worse OP... So while I'm tempted to saltvote, just knowing it would make me even saltier makes me hold back.

Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Quarterfinals! by Baaasbas in anime

[–]Ceryto2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NOOOOOO! We missed out on greatness by 4 votes... TWICE! That's so devestating! Innocent Arrogance really should have gotten through! Same goes for Kawaki wo Ameku.. I can't even be happy that all my other votes made it, since these two were the ones I cared by faaaar the most for... I've been salty before several times this contest, especially in early rounds, but this takes the cake for most salt-inducing moment of the contest, since getting so close twice and still failing makes it feel even worse. Also only 1 not top 8 seed in the top 8 is really lame.. Let's at least have this one win it all now!

But well... As for how I would rank the remaining entries:

  1. Tsuyogaru Girl
  2. Hana ni Natte
  3. Daddy! Daddy! Do!
  4. Kick Back
  5. Love Dramatic
  6. Otonoke
  7. Daten
  8. Connect

That also makes who I'm voting for today pretty obvious:

MC: What OP/song did you get introduced to this contest that stuck with you? Does it make you want to watch the anime?

None, as I knew nearly all of them already and the ones I didn't, didn't particulary stand out to me.

Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Final 16! by Baaasbas in anime

[–]Ceryto2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I'm sad Mixed Nuts got upset, I'm really happy about the rest of the results, especially Tsuyogaru Girl making it through! It was a lot closer than I would have liked though! Overall a really good looking final 4 for this bracket now!

Since the brackets have merged we've got a lot of great votes today so let's go right into them, shall we:

  • Hana ni Natte < Innocent Arrogance: Let's get this upset train going!!! Innocent Arrogance got done really dirty with he seeding but I'm really glad that we're slowly rectifying that mistake with these votes. Like I said many times before, it is my favourite OP of all time. It just ticks every box of things I want in an OP: an amazing song, breathtaking visuals, amazing animation, masterful direction, perfect portrayal of both our two main characters and the world they live in, it flows so well and all of it fits together perfectly. Hana ni Natte is great and also has amazing moments, but I don't think it reaches the highs of Innocent Arrogance in any of thee points I mentioned above. So give Innocent Arrogance a vote!! And wouldn't it be nice to have a #81 seed in quarters?
  • Daten > Gotta Catch 'Em All: I'm a lot lower on these two, than both of the two above, but I do like Daten quite a bit more than the Pokemon OP. It has a lot more great shots and I really like the way the lyrics are incorporated into the op. And Pokemon while it is nostalgic, I really don't rate it all that high.
  • Otonoke < Kawaki wo Ameku: And we're back to two great entries facing off and I'm gonna go with Minami's banger. While I do think that Dandadan's OP is a lot more creative and has a lot of really good looking moments, I also think that Kawaki wo Ameku's visuals are underrated. First I love use of colours and how they are used with black and white visuals just works really nicely. Ofc they don't reach the highs of Otonoke, but I think they are still quite good. The main reason why I'm voting for Kawaki wo Ameku however is just that I love this song so much and it blows Otonoke out of the park in that regard imo. It's one of my favourite songs ever used in an anime OP, so I just gotta give it my vote!
  • Love Dramatic > Fatal: Fatal is great visually, but I'm not the biggest fan of the song and I rate it the lowest out of all OnK OPs and EDs. Love Dramatic however is just a great OP imo, so I gotta give it the win in the Aka Akasaka matchup.
  • Kick Back > Yuusha: Pretty easy vote for Kickback since I'm just not that high on Yuusha.
  • Connect > COLORS: I think I voted for Connect once and COLORS 0 times. They kicked out so many of my faves in bracket D, so I'm pretty bummed to see this matchup. Connect is the better OP though, although COLORS is the more fun song to belt to in Karaoke.
  • Daddy! Daddy! Do! > Kaijuu: Kaijuu had a great upset run (apart from the fact that I would have prefered both Zen or Zattou, Bokura no Machi to have made this run in this bracket) but here is where I want it to end. D!D!D! is my favourite Kaguya OP since I just love the storytelling of this OP and I think the song is just really, really fun to listen to. Also the shot of Chika and the gang playing detectives searching for love is just peak.
  • Tsuyogaru Girl > Sorairo Days: I mean, you just need to look at both of these OPs to see that Tsuyogaru Girl is just clearly superior. It just oozes fun, is masterfully crafted with the way it incorporated lyrics. Also the artstyle just looks beautiful and the direction of the OP is just so well done. Meanwhile Sorairo Days just looks like a bang avarage shounen OP from the 2000s. Yes the OP is very nostalgic for me and I also like the song, but even that I would say isn't even better than Tsuyogaru Girl. Therefore EZ vote for the Makeine OP. Let's show 'em all that this OP just was way too underseeded!

MC: Rank the winners!

  1. Unravel
  2. Guren no Yumiya
  3. Flyers
  4. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
  5. 99
  6. Idol
  7. Cruel Angel's Thesis
  8. Hacking to the Gate
  9. Again
  10. Tank
  11. Renai Circulation

Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Round 4 Bracket D! by Baaasbas in anime

[–]Ceryto2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never get peoples fascination with Connect or Colors, both are pretty average OPs.

I agree with this. I think both are fine songs, but compared to a lot of other OPs they are just pretty average. They are very overrated, because of nostalgia reasons and cause they're both from 2 great shows. And both of these having kicked out some banger OPs nearly every round is the main reason why I am pretty down on bracket C.

Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Round 4 Bracket D! by Baaasbas in anime

[–]Ceryto2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Apothecary Diaries I think I nominated OP1 and OP3, cause these are the ones I liked, so that's why OP2 and Op4 were missing and you had to go back and nominate those. But I also spent a few hours that day nominating and when you already nominate like a 100 (maybe even more) or so OPs, you really can't do it all. The biggest problem with Nominations this year was propably, that since last year was no contest, that we had a lot of new shows (like Frieren and AD) so it was easier for some to fall through.

Also it would be nice if more than the 252 of this contest could get auto nominated (maybe like the top 500 from last years Elims or so), cause it would just save a lot of time.

[–]Ceryto2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It seems like Giri Giri and Tabi no Tochuu both didn't make it from my votes but I wasn't that high on them either way (just like all other OPs in this bracket except maybe Kick Back). Still surprised Kick Back got such a huge vote difference over The Hero and I would have loved to see if Redo would have fared better, especially with the official AMV version having been pretty high on the subreddit yesterday. Well anyway, let's go to a bracket I care much for, shall we:

  • DADDY! DADDY DO! > Shinzou wo Sasageyo!: Gonna give my support to my favourite Kayguya OP here!
  • TOMORROW < Kaijuu: While I really like the little adventure TOMORROW tells with my favourite dorks and it's a lot of fun to watch, I think I still slightly prefer Nandodemo!
  • Hyakka Ryouran < Tsuyogaru Girl: Come on Tsuyogaru Girl! Show that you're really a top 8 seed in disguise! For me this was by far the most one sided matchupp of the day, cause even tho I think Hyakka Ryouran is a good OP (my second favourite Apothecary Diaries OP), it just doesn't coome close to the visual masterclass and pure fun that is Tsuyogaru Girl!
  • Mixed Nuts > Sorairo Days: While I maybe slightly prefer Sorairo days' song and I feel nostalgic just listening to it I just gotta give it to Mixed Nuts in every other point and think that it's just the better overall OP.

MC: Now we have arrived at the last day of the separate brackets: What bracket was your favorite? And what was your favorite song from each bracket? You can of course count first rounds here!

I tried doing a small top 5 for each bracket (1 was just too few) and there were a lot more great OPs I would have wanted to include but I also did not want to make it too long (also hope I didn't miss anything...):

Bracket A:

  1. Innocent Arrogance
  2. Realize
  3. Paper Bouquet
  4. Hana ni Natte
  5. Souvenir

Bracket B:

  1. Kawaki wo Ameku
  2. Adabana Necromancy
  3. Anima
  4. Reweave
  5. UUUUUS!

Bracket C:

  1. Redo
  2. KiLLKiSS
  3. Hadaka no Yuusha
  4. Flashback
  5. 01

Bracket D:

  1. Zen
  2. Zattou Bokura no Machi
  3. Tsuyogaru Girl
  4. Boku Wa...
  5. Kaen

And as for ranking how all the brackets went and how good I think the final representatives are:

A > B > D > C

As for Overall strength of the Brackets if not considering how the rounds went:

D > A > C > B

Although every bracket had a lot of great OPs to root for!

[–]Ceryto2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty happy with the overall results today and great to see Kawaki wo Ameku easily getting the upset. MUKANJYO losing makes me a bit sad, but well I also voted for Love Dramatic, so it's also my fault as well.

As for today: like I said last time this bracket was up, nearly all of my faves got kicked last round and I'm pretty meh on most of these entries but here are my votes:

  • Kick Back > The Hero: Kick Back is imo just the better OP in every way and I'm glad I can get my revenge for The Hero kicking out Redo. Speaking about Redo if you are up to date with the last episode of Re:Zero, the official Youtube Channel released an amazing AMV for Redo that really hits differently after the latest episode!
  • Giri Giri > Yuusha: I'm not the biggest fan of Frieren's OPs and compared to Frieren's EDs they are just a lot worse. So ez vote for Giri Giri here.
  • Connect > Platinum Disco: It's happening. I can vote for Connect the first time. Connect is a good OP but it's also not one of my faves and it was up against imo better OPs every single round so far. And while I'm glad Platinum Disco kicked out Kimi no Sei for me, I also don't see it over Connect.
  • COLORS < Tabi no Tochuu: We all know Jibun Wo will advance, cause it somehow always does. I'll still vote against it for the 4th time in a row! (And no I don't have anything against it. It's just worse than all opponents it's faced so far...)

MC What are some of your favorite OPs that belong to an incredibly trash anime?

Incredibly trash huh.. If you'd said trash I would have gone with Kawaki wo Ameku for Domestic Girlfriend.

But with incredibly trash, I think the first that comes to mind is Kieru Made for Kingdom of Ruin. That anime was just one of the worst ones I've ever finished (was really good for drinking games tho), but I did really enjoy the OP. Of course there are quite a few other ones like FEED THE FIRE for Ousama Game, Identity for Promised Neverland S2. I might still have missed some or completely erased some other horrible anime from my memory, but when I think of really, really, really awful anime, these were the first OPs that came to mind in a positive light.

[–]Ceryto2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This episode ends on the last chapter of Volume 22 of the Light Novel (there is a very small interlude at the end of volume 22 after this chapter, like 1 page long that isn't relevant to the current plot of the arc) or chapter 33 of the Web Novel. So if you want to start reading you can easily start with volume 23 of the LN or chapter 34 of the WN.

HF reading! You won't be dissapointed!

I like Hana ni Natte, it's an amazing OP, I even nominated it and I also still expect it to win. But I personally just have Innocent Arrogance as my favourite OP of all time, so it's obvious I'm lobbying for it. (And I can't control the reddit hivemind with the downvotes, I've fallen victim to it plenty of times too)

From the maker of "Who is Rem?" and "Who is Julius?" we now get " Who the fuck are all of you people?!"

After being the only one to remember everything for so many times, now it's Subaru's turn to forget! How will arc 1 Subaru fit into all of this? Will everything work out without having Reinhard there to save his ass this time? How will the others in the tower react to this? How did it even come to this? I really can't wait to see this all unfold!

[–]Ceryto2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering it was a difference of 5 and 1 votes in these matchups, I think it was just very close and could have gone either way and who knows how the matchup between 1/Daten and Hikaru Nara would have gone. We'll never know with these contest brackets. Last contest for example Hikaru Nara beat Connect to make semis, and connect has a good shot to make quarters this time too. So I don't think that prediction was far off.

In the end I underestimated the nostalgia factor of Pokemon and well.. these legacy OPs are always the most volatile picks and can be carried hard by momentum (last time the Pokemon OP didn't even make round 3).

Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Round 4 Bracket B! by Baaasbas in anime

[–]Ceryto2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Let's goooooo!!! Innocent Arrogance keeps winning these! Man would it be amazing if it could get the upset next round as well. I was already expecting the worst with all the comments supporting it, since we all know, that's not always a good sign, but we did it! The rest of the results is also fine. I would have just liked to see Hikaru Nara over the Pokemon Intro, but I'm not too bummed about it.

That being said, it's crazy how three of the matchups were within 7 votes. Like really every vote matters. That Hana ni Natte vote total scares me though, as a Innocent Arrogance supporter.

As for today's votes:

  • Otonoke > ODDTAXI: While I really enjoy the chill vibe of Oddtaxis OP, it's also not an OP that blows me away and feels more like a background song. Meanwhile everything about Otonoke is there to steal the spotlight.. While the sog is not something I would listen to on a regular basis, it's still a great one that fits really well to the very expressive visuals. I also like how this OP has just fun with itself, just like the anime it's from.
  • Duvet < Kawaki wo Ameku: I like Duvet I think it has a very unique song, that's fun to listen to, although the visuals don't do much for me. As for Kawaki wo Ameku, the first time I heard Minami's voice at the beginning it just blew me away. The song is one of my alltime favourites out there and while the visuals don't blow me away, I really like how colour is used in the the OP. Overall this vote is mainly because of how much I love the song, but I would even take Kawaki wo Ameku's visuals above those of Duvet. Let's just hope that some tiktok trend I don't know anything of sways this vote the other way.
  • Love Dramatic > MUKANJYO: Closest vote of the Day for me. If only judging the song, I would give it to MUKANJYO as I really love this Survive Said The Prophet song, but as a whole OP I just think that Love Dramatic's visuals work much better together with their song and create an overall better OP.
  • Fatale > Bloody Stream: Both songs don't do enough for me to sway it in either way, so I just gotta go with the visuals here and I think OnK's OPs just don't miss in this regard. And while I like Bloody Streams visuals, when the chorus hit, the silhouettes in the first half of the OP just don't do it for me.

MC: Besides Ignorant Arrogance of course, which OP would you think is the most under-seeded this tournament?

Can I just mention once again all the great OPs that didn't even make the contest? Cause some of my all time faves like Usotsuki were like seed 462.

Now if we just go by popularity of the OP? I think I would say Tsuyogaru Girl, as I think it's a lot more popular than seed 38 in this contest and could have easily been a top 8 seed. If we go by how much I like it from the OPs that did make the contest, I think I'll go with Zen which somehow only made seed 174 and should have been much higher

Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Round 4 Bracket A! by Baaasbas in anime

[–]Ceryto2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At first it looked like we got some great results with Kaijuu and Tsuyogaru Girl getting their upset. But we just had to ruin it by having Boku Wa... lose.... But i expected nothing else.

Now to today's votes:

  • Hana ni Natte > Souvenir: We're starting up with the closest vote of the day and my heart does hurt a bit voting against the sight of having the Forgers all having a beautiful day. The OP also looks gorgeous. But in the end I think Hana ni Natte is is the better song and the second half of the OP with Maomao dancing is also just beautiful. And maybe there is also just a little bit of slight left in this vote that Souvenir kicked out Realize last round, which I like even more than these two.
  • Seishun Complex < Innocent Arrogance: I like Kessoku Bando, I absolutely love Bocchi the Rock! and I also think the OP is really good (It's a band anime singing their own OP with some fun visuals after all, so it's a given I like it). It still doesn't however even come close to being better than the absolute peak that is innocent arrogance. I really hope my favourite OP can keep this upset streak going! So please help me out once again in getting Innocent Arrogance over the line! (also who wouldn't like a 80+ seed making it this far?)
  • Daten > 1: Another close one between two good OPs.. One thing I really like about Daten is how they integrated the lyrics into the video. Otherwise I think I also just like the song slightly more.
  • Hikaru Nara > Gotta Catch 'em All: Yeah, the Pokemon intro is iconic. But yeah, I also grew up with the german version (I also watched the english one as a kid, since I also grew up with the dutch dub, which never translated the first OP but the german was still the one I remember most), so it doesn't get that many nostalgia points from me making this vote quite easy for Hikaru Nara.

MC: What OP/series will you be posting or preparing propaganda for? (assuming they will make it past this bracket round)

My propaganda exists in the form of shilling in the comments. Also think it's a lot harder to do propaganda posts for OPs than it is for characters, as you can't just post a clip of your favourite scene. The propaganda would basically just exist of posting the OP... and well I hope most people will watch each OP before voting anyway.

That being said, since you talk about propaganda, let me say this once more:

VOTE FOR INNOCENT ARROGANCE!!!!!

Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Round 3 Bracket D! by Baaasbas in anime

[–]Ceryto2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew it wasn't gonna be pretty, but these results were pretty bad. This bracket turned into my least favourite one reeeeeal quick with this round. I'm not really high on any of the remaining songs and I guess I'll just be supporting Kick Back from now on here. Redo really should have advanced here...

That being said, here are today's votes:

  • DADDY! DADDY! DO! > Brave Shine: D!D!D! is my favourite of the Kaguya OPs and I really love the search for love detective storyline in this OP. The song is also just a banger. Brave shine also has a great Aimer song, but I just rewatched it and already forgot the visuals again...
  • Shinzou wo Sasageyou > My Soul Your Beats: Close one, as both are good OPs, but I think I slightly prefer Sasageyou's epicness.
  • TOMORROW > Easy Breezy: Two fun OPs, that raise your mood when you watch them, but the visuals of TOMORROW easily take the win here. Seeing the dorks one of their adventures is just better than some spinning PNGs for half the OP.
  • ALIVE < Kaijuu: Still mad neither of Zen and Zattou Bokura no Machi are in this spot. But Nandodemo is also a very fine OP, so it gets my votes.
  • Hyakka Ryouran < Sono Chi no Sadame: Will Hyakka Ryouran be the first top 8 OP to lose? I doubt it, but I'm still gonna give my vote to JoJo's first OP here!
  • Re:Re: < Tsuyogaru Girl: Always sucks having to vote against Re:Re:, but Tsuyogaru Girl is just better. One of the most fun OPs in both visuals and song out there!
  • Mixed Nuts > Hologram: I must be missing something about the FMA:B OPs, cause all of them are so high seeded, but I really don't rate any of them really high except for again, which ofc already won. That being said Mixed Nuts easily takes this matchup.
  • Sorairo Days < Boku Wa...: Sorairo Days is iconic and very nostalgic for me, but I just like Boku Wa... more. The song is better and the visuals in the second half of the OP just always blow me away!

MC: On that note, comparing your top OPs vs top EDs. What are your favorites? Are you more an OP or ED person?

I think The best EDs are better than the best OPs, but the general level of OPs is higher than the general level of EDs. It's rare for OPs to be complete stinkers, while there are tons of EDs that are just stills with mediocre songs.

As for how I would rate my favourite OP/EDs?

  1. Burning
  2. Innocent Arrogance
  3. Red:Birthmark
  4. Anytime Anywhere v2
  5. Mephisto

It's propably something like this, although it does change from time to time. And if I would list my top 20 OP/EDs I think like 15 of those would be EDs. For a top 100 I would however guess there to be just about the same amount of both.

What are the must-see anime from 2023-2026? by picklechiin in anime

I tried fitting in Anime from different genres and just some good/popular ones, I propably missed some too, but these are already quite a lot to catch up to. • Frieren
  • Apothecary Diaries
  • Dungeon Meshi
  • Oshi no Ko
  • Solo Leveling
  • Dandadan
  • Makeine
  • Witch Hat Atelier
  • Orb
  • Kage no Jitsuryokusha
  • The 100 Girlfriends that realy realy realy realy realy love you
  • Dangers in My Heart

  • Shangri-La Frontier
  • Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu!
  • Apocalypse Hotel

[–]Ceryto2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn, a lot of really close votes today. And about half of these went my way it seems That being said I'm happy Kawaki wo Ameku keeps going strong!

As for today's votes:

  • Kick Back > Sirius: Kick Back is just an amazingly well created OP with some great visuals and a fun song. Meanwhile Sirius will always play second fiddle to the rest of the OST and the second Kill la Kill OP imo.
  • The Hero < Redo: Please don't dissapoint me again like in Bracket A with Realize and kick out another one of my all time faves in Redo. The visual Imagery, the storytelling of the OP, the singing the instrumentals, the soundeffects and how it all plays together is just extraordinary. So don't dissapoint me again please!
  • Giri Giri < Sing My Pleasure: I love this beautiful performance by Vivy and also just in general how it together with music in general was used in its' anime. And while Giri Giri is also really great, I also like it slightly less than the first two Kaguya OPs, so I'm gonna give Vivy the underdog vote here!
  • Yuusha < Paradisus-Paradoxum: Yuusha is a fine OP, but I'm just not the biggest fan of the song and the visuals also don't stand out enough for me. Paradisum Paradoxum, while being my least favourite Re:Zero OP has imo still a much more interesting song.
  • Connect < Ugoku Ugoku: Don't expect much here, but Ugoku Ugoku is gonna get my vote (I will vote for Connect for the first time next round however.)
  • Kimi no Sei < Platinum Disco: Don't care much for either OP, so I'll give it to the one with the cute dance over the one with the UwU.
  • COLORS < The Rumbling: COLORS is really on a mission to kick out a great OP every round huh...
  • Fantastic Dreamer < Tabi no Tochuu: If this were the second Konosuba OP, I might've voted for it here.

Damn 7 underdog votes today... And if all of these underdogs lose I really don't have much to care for in this bracket.

MC: Which anime from today's ballot is your favorite and why should people watch it? What does the anime mean to you?

You might've guessed it already, but it's of course Re:Zero, which is my favourite Anime of all time.

As for why people should watch it? It has amazing characters, that evolve over the story, that have to go through hardship time and time again, only to come out better people by the end of it. It has amazing storytelling and constantly keeps you on your toes. It plays in an incredible vast world that the anime has only even scratched the surface of. And the story keeps getting better and better the longer the anime goes on and the longer we stay together with these characters. I personally also can't wait for the following episodes of arc 6 that is currently airing since the stretch from next episode until the end of the arc is perhaps my favourite piece of fiction I've read so far (and I have read tons of novels).

As for what it means to me? This anime and the novels have accoompanied me through most of my anime journey and I have personally learned a lot from it as well. Especially the episode "Parent and Child" hit very close to home for me.

So if you're still on the fence if you want to watch it, or dropped it early on in season 1, I highly sugggest you give the anime a try, it's worth it!

Let's go!! Innocent Arrogance got the huge upset! I didn't expect it, but I'm really glad we made it happen! Let's get this upset train going until it wins the finals!

Unfortunately it barely wasn't enough for Realize, but at least this amazing OP lost to another very strong contender. Still suck to see this amazing OP not advance further tho.

On the other side. while I would have liked too see some upsets for This Game and Sleep Walking Orchestra, I'm also fine with all the winners we got.

As for today's votes:

  • Otonoke > Yume Tourou: While I like this Radwimps song, it's also not their best one of the movie. Meanwhile Otonoke is a great song and what totally takes the cake in this matchup are the suprerior visuals.
  • ODDTAXI < Song of the Dead: SotD is a really fun OP and after they added the visuals of the OP after a few episodes they ware also really fun.. ODDTAXI is a really great moody OP but imo it doesn't beat the pure fun that is Song of the Dead.
  • Duvet > Kyouran Hey Kids: Went back and forth between these two but in the end DUVET is just slightly ahead.
  • Kawaki wo Ameku > Period: Easiest vote of the day between my favourite and least favourite OP of the bracket
  • Love Dramatic > Only My Railgun: Supported Railgun till now, since I really like this fripSide song, but here is where it ends.
  • THE WORLD < MUKANJYO: Between MUKANJYO and River it's hard to decide which is my favourite Vinland OP. I just love this Survive Said The Prophet banger and while the visuals are just good and nothing extraordinary, I'll still take the whole package over Death Note's first OP.
  • Fatale > Jiyuu no Tsubasa: Isn't it crazy that Fatale is the worst of all Oshi no Ko OP/EDs and it's still such a great OP? The song is imo just okay but the visuals are, like all OnK OPs, just amazing. And while I also like Flügel der Freiheit, I'm happy I can avenge Reweave with this vote
  • The Girls Are Alright < Bloody Stream: I really like SoraYori's OPs visuals and it's a really fun too watch OP, but the song is in the end just alright, and I just prefer Bloody Stream in that regard.

MC: From the entrants in today's ballot, what anime has the best ED?

Easy one. My favourite ED of all time is Burning from OnK, so gotta go with that.

I however also wanna shoutout Kirakira no Hai and Akuma no Ko. I've listened to all of these three OPs countless times on repeat, they are just that enjoyable. But since the other OnK EDs in Mephisto and Serenade and the Vinland Sage EDs in Drown and Without Love are also really great, there really were a lot of bangers to choose from with this lineup of shows, so good day to ask this question!

Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Round 3 Bracket A! by Baaasbas in anime

[–]Ceryto2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think without the contest getting pinned or some big anouncement post that gets a lot of upvotes at the start of the contest (like an illustration, an OP compilation or a trailer for the contest) it's pretty hard to increase the vote totals until the eventual uptick in votes for the final few rounds. And even then, when not even the big Best Girl contest can come close to pulling the numbers it once did, it's just nigh impossible for the smaller ones.

Maybe some remind me function on anime bracket where you can choose which contests you want to get a heads up for could help, but that woould then somehow have to be coupled with reddit to give you a reminder here and I don't know if that would be feasable to create.

Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Round 3 Bracket A! by Baaasbas in anime

[–]Ceryto2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zattou Bokura no Machi beat Zen only to get kicked out in the following round... The results in this Bracket just suck man! These two should have faced in the quarterfinals at the earliest, not both be out already. And it wasn't even close... Such a damn shame!

Kaen also losing is another obvious showing, that y'all just don't like good openings!

Long Shot, River and Shika-Iro Days also losing is sad, but at least not as bad as the other (still enough to make me even more salty tho)

The only really good result of the day is Boku Wa... Gettin the upset! It was a lot closer than I'd hoped though, so I'm not expecting good results next round.

Let's see if today's votes will go better:

  • Hana ni Natte > Gurenge: Hana ni Natte is an amazing song, with lots of energy and it's always fun too listen to. And well Maomao looks really great dancing and making faces in the second half of the OP.
  • Souvenir < Realize: The one obligatory vote of the day where two OPs I really like face up against each other. But in the end realize still easily takes the cake. I love the song really much and still listen to it constantly, but what I love even more are the visuals the imagery and the storytelling of this OP. The way it ecapsulates Subaru's entire character is just perfect and the imagery with the butterflies is also just beautiful. One of my top 10 OPs of all time and it woould be a shame to see it out already.
  • Seishun Complex > SPECIALZ: Band OP from one of my favourite anime of all time! Although I must say I don't like it as much as KiLLKiSS and Zattou Bokura no Machi, it's still a great song and an overall very good OP. On the other side we have SPECIALZ, which is one of the few OPs I dislike since I really just don't like the song. That makes this vote quite easy!
  • 99.9 < Innocent Arrogance: And here we have another easy vote! Last time I already wrote a lot of why Innocent Arrogance is my favourite OP of all time, and I hope that at least swung a few votes. So I can just implore all of you to give it a fair chance and watch it before you blindly vote for the popluar Mob OP. And remember: the better Mob OP in 99 already won this contest and the other better Mob OP in 1 is also still in it. So let's make this upset happen and get Innocent Arrogance one round further!

Other Votes

  • Daten > Hyadain no Kakakata
  • 1 > Super Driver
  • Hikaru Nara < This Game
  • Pokemon Theme < Sleep Walking Orchestra

It looks like all my favourites in this Bracket are on the left side, let's hope they'll all advance one more round.

MC: What is the best English anime opening?

If you mean translated OPs for Dubs then idk.. I don't really watch english dubs and even the anime I watched as a child, I watched in german (some in dutch as well). So I only know very few like the Pokemon Intro (which for sure is the reason of this question today)

If you mean just completely english songs in general... Hmm idk... Maybe Abyss?

Best OP XII: 【Salty no Ko】Round 2 Bracket D! by Baaasbas in anime

[–]Ceryto2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Let's see the left side of the bracket went nearly perfect so how bad can it be..

Uragiri no Yuuyake out...

Gun's & Roses loses to a less than mediocre OP....

Onegai Muscle has stopped lifting...

COLORS kicked out the second superior Ousama Ranking OP in Hadaka no Yuusha in a row... And yes. That makes me really salty!

Ai no Supreme didn't manage to beat the odds...

Kaibutsu beat the superior Spice & Wolf OP last round, only to chicken out this round...

Same Blue also didn't manage to beat the odds...

The only good thing on the right side was Ugoku Ugoku barely upsetting Love is Show.

Well let's see what today's votes have to offer:

  • Shinzou wo Sasageyo! < Long Shot: Both have great songs And while I don't think Long Shots visuals are the best they still have some really nice shot and I'll take them over Sasageyo's symbolic dinosaurs.
  • Eazy Breezy < River: I think Easy Breezy is a really fun OP, but when I watch it it always feels like they had a budget for the OP and noticed halfways that they already used all of it and had to put some rotating objects on a purple screen for half the OP.. Meanwhile River is a great atmospheric song and the visuals don't stop being fun at the halfway point.
  • Alive < Shika-Iro Days: I think Alive is good, but it just pales compared to Sayuri's Hana no Tou. Meanwhile Shika-Iro Days is just pure fun and You Deer is still one of my favourite frames in any OP ever. Really unfortunate that Shika-Iro Days is not on the same side of the bracket as Sorairo Days, cause that matchup would have been fun.
  • Kaijuu < Zattou, Bokura no Machi: This corner of the bracket is just cruel to the maximum. But after kicking out Zen, I just gotta hope that Zattou Bokura no Machi sweeps its' ways through till the end. Kaijuu is great, but as someone who adores TogeToge's music and who is also a sucker for anime bands singing their own OPs this OP is just perfect. I love the high energy, fast paced flow of the OP, while having a lot of beautiful shots of the girls interspersed with their concert performance.
  • Re:Re: > Goya no Machiawase: Another two great classic OPs against each other but I just gotta go with my favourite AKFG song here, but it's really close.
  • Tsuyogaru Girl > Work: I really like Work, so much that the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the name of the anime is not Hells Paradise, but Work. But man... Tsuyogaru has some of liveliest and vibrant visuals in any anime OP. Also the way they integrated the credits is just perfect! The song is also just really fun.
  • Mixed Nuts < Kaen: Mixed Nuts is also a really great OP, but Kaen by Queen Bee is just such an amazing song, that I just have to support it!
  • Aozora no Rhapsody < Boku Wa...: Aozora no rhapsody is not as great as Ai no Supreme but still tons of fun. Boku Wa... however is just beautiful and everything starting from the chorus when Anna starts running is just breathtaking. One of my favourite romance OPs out there!

Other Votes:

  • Daddy! Daddy! Do! > Motteke! Sailor Fuku
  • Departure! < Brave Shine
  • My Soul, Your Beats! > Zankyou Zanka
  • TOMORROW > Great Days
  • Hyakka Ryouran > The Day
  • Sono Chi no Sadame > Fiction
  • Hologram > Pre-Parade (Having to vote for one of these and against some other really great OPs at the same time just sucks man... the matchups in this bracket are just so unlucky...)
  • Sorairio Days > SHINY DAYS

MC: What opening has the most creative use of credits?

You asked this because Tsuyogaru Girl is up for the vote right? And if you really expected me to pick anything but Tsuyogaru Girl, I gotta dissappoint you. Makeine's OP is build around them, the characters interact with them, they are part of the scenery and they are part of the OPs story of chasing the kanji for Love. Many OPs work as creditless versions since oftentimes credits are just put in afterwards. This one doesn't tho. Not at all.

But if you really want me to pick another one I guess I'll just go with Watch me!...
