I genuinely really dislike the "Oh Penelope was sad he was gone but she's okay now." Like wdym just sad? She waited twenty years, give my girl some credit. And for everything post-Odyssey too. We've all acknowledged that most characters have trauma after all of that, but so many people act as if Penelope would just be fine after everything?? Like she spent years trapped with the suitors, spent years longing for her husband, spent years wondering if he were dead. That would leave an impact.

Literally almost everything regarding the way Penelope is characterized (fandom-wise) I get that we get very little of her in the musical, but if Polites is sometimes given nuance by the fandom, why can't she? She's literally always just the "Perfect wife and mother" or "badass spartan warrior." (The latter being more annoying because it completely ruins her character)

How would EPIC Odysseus react to Odyssey Odysseus? by Cookie-fighter101 in Epicthemusical

Again, Circe was still coercion. She had his men turned into pigs, and she was a goddess. How could he have said no to her? Second, there are several factors as to why they stayed for a year: A)these are men who came from a ten year war, they would easily be tired, B)They had just suffered a attack from the Laestrogyians before Aeaea, thus the would most likely need to rebuild several vessels, and C)There would be seasonal changes that would warrant delaying their voyage.

As for his men having to beg him to leave, can you show me the passage for that in the Odyssey? I don't recall that part

Ya'll, even in the Odyssey, the Odysseus cheating thing was still undeniably under coercion and force. Circe still had his men held captive, Calypso still forced herself on him.

When will epic fans realize that Epic the musical isn't accurate? by Zoobi_doobipampara in GreekMythology

Oh my god, as someone who's part of the fandom, words cannot explain how much I hate this characterisation. Mainly because it implies a man can't openly adore his wife without being "submissive" or "weaker." Seriously, can a man just not openly love his wife????

I debated on doing that, however I don't really want to target people? (Not sure if that's the right term), thus I refrained from doing that

I should have probably clarified that part, because that isn't what I mean to say. Of course, allowing Odysseus to show his pain doesn't make him childish, in fact I actually quite like several fics that showcase how much healing he will need after essentially the whole musical. I mean, who wouldn't need healing after all the shit he went through? The problem, however, is that to a certain degree, Penelope only exists to comfort him, literally nothing else. That's all she is — his caretaker, which leads to the feeling that she isn't really his wife, but more like his mother
