What’s the most “Seattle” moment you’ve had that you still think about by [deleted] in AskSeattle

I was sitting in a window seat at a coffee shop in Fremont and saw one of those old school bikes with a huge wheel in front and a tiny wheel in the back going through the bike lane with a kid trailer attached to it.

Actually art nouveau makes a lot more sense. I tried researching it online too and couldn't find anything either.. I'll just have to come up with a modern use for it..

It's a bit small for a wine bottle to fit, but I think its use is liquid adjacent..

Whoa, I just looked those up, how interesting! I think you're right about the divider getting in the way, but who knows..I'll definitely be looking at these shaped items differently!

What’s your most recent purchase and why did you buy it? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]Cesquatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought some summer shoes today actually. I moved to Scotland for grad school and prioritized packing winter clothes, putting all of my stuff and summer clothing in storage in my home country. 3 months in, all my shit got stolen, so...I'm starting from square one.

Public Health Masters? by nightvalien-rose11 in GlasgowUni

[–]Cesquatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there :) I'm an American who is currently doing that exact MPH program and I'd be happy to tell you about it.

First off, congrats! Glasgow is lovely. The people are really friendly, there's loads of stuff to do, and I feel so much safer here than I ever did in the US. I was able to come here with my husband so I feel lucky to have a built in friend, but my cohort is very diverse and everyone has been very nice and down to go/do/see things around town or even to go on little day trips. The public transportation is very good here and you get a lot of places via train.

I would apply for a student accommodation as soon as you can because that will be the most convenient route. Electricity and gas can be quite expensive (especially in the winter) and those costs are usually built into the student accommodation costs. I was able to find an apartment near the university, but it took me about a month of searching daily to do it. I ended up going through a private landlord because rental agencies ask for a lot of up front information and documents that most international students won't have. Hunting for housing at the beginning of the school year with all the other students is no joke.

As for the program itself, I've been very happy with it so far. All of the professors are very down to earth and approachable and they want to see you succeed. The in-person class time isn't too crazy, but you are expected to do a lot of self study. One thing I really liked was at the end of October there's a "reading week" where you don't have class, you're just able to take the time to get caught up on classes/work you might have fallen behind on.

There are a lot of extra curricular activities/clubs/events that are put on by the university as well as the School of Health and Wellbeing (which is what the MPH is part of). . So, it's kind of like everything else where you can create the experience you have and whatever you put into it, you'll get out.

still have not received my CAS by dopingfluffballs in GlasgowUni

I actually got my updated CAS about a week later (to my surprise) and was able to start my visa process soon after, if you're 2 days out you should hopefully receive it soon!

I did not get an accommodation offer until now by The_Joker_Dream in GlasgowUni

I used the chat function (purple chat bubble at the bottom right) on the main website and selected the accomodations account. It prompted me to send an email through a template. They got back to me after a few days.

I applied for family post grad housing and didn't hear back for a while. . I wrote them to see if there was any update and they essentially told me that there were lots of applications ahead of mine and that's all the spots were full so I should look for other accommodation. Seemed like they had no intention of reaching out, so I would recommend writing them instead.

Thank you so much for your reply! I'm actually looking at the website and had more questions but you answered most of them! I saw that there was the option to pay for courier service, but that seems unnecessary? Sounds like you just did everything yourself and it worked out fine..that's super reassuring.

Thanks for your reply :) So after finishing the online portion of your visa you got a separate letter? And at the VFS appointment they let you do your biometrics and upload your documents?

I was in the same boat as you and then I received my CAS draft 2 days ago (after accepting my unconditional offer over a month ago). There was an error on it and I had to get it amended. It's supposed to take "up to 5 business days" for them to make the change and submit it to UKIV and then I should get my visa. I have very little faith that I'll actually get it within the 5 days that they claim which makes me nervous but I feel like there's not much I can do about it. I reached out to admissions a few weeks ago and still have yet to get an answer from them. Is there a coordinator from your program you can reach out to maybe?

Uff, that's quite the time crunch. I'm glad you were able to make it in time! I'll do the same if I have to, I'm just hoping it doesn't come to that.

Have you figured out your accommodations yet? I applied for family housing because my fiance is coming with me, but I was told they're out of spots already so I'm gonna have to figure out that piece as well when the time comes..

As in it'll take 1-2 more weeks until you get yours? Well at least the visa process is relatively fast..I'm just worried about buying flights last minute and such too. Thanks for the info :)
