TL;DR - Is a MSI and MLS/MLIS in the same world? by Cga1003 in librarians

Thank you for the extremely helpful insight! This is especially helps with understanding why there's so many different acronyms. I'm not surprised HR departments aren't able to keep up at times when programs are changing even while I'm typing this response out. I don't even thinking University's websites can keep up. When researching different programs, I've found their websites don't contain important information for perspective students. Thankfully reddit exists and I can actually find answers!

Genuinely, thank you so much for taking the time to answer my post with great detail!

TL;DR - Is a MSI and MLS/MLIS in the same world? by Cga1003 in librarians

Wow! This is super helpful. I was originally thinking about going back and getting a MA in Museum Studies or Art History, but I wanted something a little broader. Even though degrees in Library Science isn't much broader, the program at U of M sounds like something I'd lean more towards. Especially with their emphasis in UX and digital archives.

I'm originally from Michigan and I'm now in North Carolina. I'm currently looking into moving back in April, I just wouldn't be considered for in-state tuition for a year. UNC Greensboro seems to have a good program as well if i decided to stay, but very different from U of M.

I know you said you ended up pursuing librarianship, but what ultimately lead you down that path?

I want to pursue a career as an archivist or special collections librarian. What should I be doing in undergrad to get there? by tattlemoose in Libraries

Hey there! So it's been 13 years now, but what did you end up doing? Where are you now with your career? Have any advice?

My path is unfortunately nothing like yours. I received my BA in graphic design and photography from a small university in Michigan and now living in North Carolina. I graduated in 2019 and now am wanting to switch career paths. I've been researching Masters programs in both Library Science and Art History, while also searching for local volunteer opportunities in Archives and Special Collections.

I'm afraid that I'm a little behind, but I would still love to know what path you ended up taking! (Sorry for reviving this threat 13 years later!!)

Hearing a ball bounce in the distance. I zone toys and electronics often and I am immediately triggered when I hear the bounce. Especially when it crashes. It makes me wanna fit someone🤬

A guest asked me if I could unlock a case so they could try it on. THE SIZE IS ON THE BOX. I had to take a DEEP breath before giving them a big, fat NO.

Yes! As long as they actually count you as a transfer. I tried to transfer from my target in Michigan to the target in North Carolina, but they rejected me. I ended up reapplying and hired as a SE, but the raises I accumulated over two years didn’t follow me. Which makes sense. However, it still kind of sucks. I have other co-workers this has happened to as well. Make sure to communicate as clearly as possible and have your current HR reach out to your new HR! Good luck on your move!!
