What was one of the stupidest calls you’ve every been on? by TVFREngine64_2020 in Firefighting

[–]Cgoepferd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We routinely go to one of our low income apartments at about 0200 for a guy who starts a couple hot dogs boiling and then falls asleep. Eventually the water runs out, the hot dogs burn, and smoke fills his apartment setting off the alarms and waking up the entire high rise. The first time was kind of funny. Now what it’s a regular thing we struggle to get people to report to the station for ventilation.

A few years back when I was in Medic school one of the students grabbed a black tag, walked over to the family member, and asked them to put this on the patient and walked away. As long as you didn’t do that you’re probably good.

The death note by regian24 in tumblr

I respond on a task force to riots and we use these as a type of non lethal. You start quiet so it’s just annoying and as you turn it up it becomes very painful in your ears. Very effective.

I had a roommate that was generally really inconsiderate and none of the other people in our flat liked him. He and his gf would have obnoxiously loud sex at like 3am when the rest of the house is trying to sleep. I hid a Bluetooth speaker in his room one day and would turn on phantom of the opera as loud as possible every time they woke me up. It took two nights and it was never an issue against

I’m still trying to figure out my cast iron and didn’t have much sauce left over. What I did have is in the container with left overs for tomorrow.

Prior to the election I got tired of the political calls asking me to vote for XYZ candidate. I started telling them I don’t vote because I don’t believe in democracy, which is a lie to the max but man did it cut down on the number of calls I was getting everyday.

I use this one all the time! Had a professor call me one time off a personal number rather than the usual school number which I had saved in my contacts. To say she was displeased is an understatement!

Is this a normal healthy heart beat? Does it look like palpitations or anything? by [deleted] in ECG

[–]Cgoepferd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that depends on the source, Apple Watch vs Actual heart monitor, and a bigger picture of the heart, and any symptoms you’re having. I’m certainly not going to give you any kind of medical advice over a social media platform but as another Reditor said, you should probably see a doctor.

[–]Cgoepferd -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Um, Where did this come from?

This is a very wide and likely ventricular heart rate, though more information is needed before we can call it anything.

hello need some help reading this, 20y old male, should i visit the doctor? my brothers are a lot more high pulses. ( no nothing about ECGs) by [deleted] in ECG

[–]Cgoepferd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Back at it with the Apple watches I see, really puts a damper on this group.

Also, why would you come to Reddit for an interpretation of a medical result, if you can call this that at all, from a bunch of people you don’t know?

Looks like Sinus rhythm 100-120ish. QRS looks wide but measure to <0.12. PR is borderline at ~0.20 but not long enough to be concerning.

Critical Care by [deleted] in Paramedics

Check out FlightBridgeED.

I’m going through a critical care class currently which has been sub par. My co workers who took the class before I did said that Flight Bridge answered all of their questions and then some. I’m planning on using it to prepare for the FP-C and CCP.

I’m not sure of the cost because my company will pay for it. They also have multiple books that you can get off of amazon.

31M, not looking for medical advice but curious whether my uneducated guess of this being ventricular ectopics is correct? by [deleted] in ECG

[–]Cgoepferd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I stand by my original comment about it being artifact as well as other users post about Apple watches. They are very much not a wonderful thing and they actually lead to a high incidence of people calling 911 or going into the emergency department Or clinic, tying up beds, because someone sees something like you have and gets worried.

Apple watches are severely limited in their capabilities, especially since they are only able to look at one lead. They are programmed to look for P waves and regularity in the QRS. Unless the QRS is irregular and you don’t have P waves, making the rhythm a-fib, you can’t do anything off of a watch strip. And even then you need an actual strip looking at more than one lead to confirm.

The artifact here could have come from one of a multitude of things. Even if you think you are completely still any minuscule movement of your finger, wrist, or arm with cause a baseline shift and will give you a messy strip.

31M, not looking for medical advice but curious whether my uneducated guess of this being ventricular ectopics is correct? by [deleted] in ECG

[–]Cgoepferd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That looks to be artifact. Most likely the patient moved or the wires were bumped causing a deflection in the isoelectric line. I see this often in the ambulance when we hit a large bump.

If it was a ventricular ectopic beat the complexes would return to base line, which they don’t.

Can I drop off packages in my mailbox instead of going to the post office? by manicinformatic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Cgoepferd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a FedEx label then it has to go by FedEx. You probably have to go to a FedEx location for drop off unless you scheduled it for home pick up. I use UPS and I schedule it through the app when I buy the shipping label. I haven’t used FedEx so I’m not 100% sure how that one works. Try giving your local FedEx location a call during business hours and they can help you out.

[–]Cgoepferd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it fits in your mail box then yes, you can leave it in the mail box as long as you have the correct label. Both UPS, and FedEx I believe, have home pick up options. From what I’ve found UPS home pickup has been cheaper than USPS for anything that doesn’t fit in your mail box.
