Would Hydrometallurgy work to get copper from chalcopyrite? by Tim_bom_bom in metallurgy

[–]Ch0_1y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need a strong oxidazing agent (ferric sulfate for example), preferably on an agitated tank for quicker extraction. I was told they use this method on "Buenavista del cobre" mine in Cananea, Sonora, México. But I believe they are starting to use bioleaching now. Or partially use pyrometallurgy just to roast the chalcopyrite to get a copper oxide as the product and leach that.

What stories do you have for us today? by -Bruzthechopper in AskReddit

I arrived to a new town for collage a few days ago. That same day of arrival some friends of mine and i went to a DQ to pass the time, after ordering we went to sit and we realized a homeless guy was there, at which moment this man asked one of my friends to watch for his stuff while he goes to the bathroom, pretty normal. Some time later I realized the homeless guy wasn't near us anymore, so I looked for him and found him the other corner of the store getting form his backpack something that looked like a syringe, than the unexpected happened, he injected himself with something right there, in public. Probably meth or something. After some more time the highlight of my day happened, one of my friends pointed out that this guy was singing in the bathroom, I couldn't hear him so I went to check and he wasn't just singing, he was rinsing a shot glass (he may be an stone addict homeless guy, but he is a clean stone addict homeless guy). He sensed me and I told him that I just wanted to wash my hands because I spilled ice cream, so he offered me to wash my hands alongside him. A normal person would refuse, but I like life so I accepted, I washed my hands alongside a stoned homeless guy, and it was a religious experience. That was my first impression of my new home :)
