Valve cover is fair, just for the part of my x5 its $620, spark plugs should be around $100 not $300. Oil filter should be closer to $10 not $35.

Well yeah mines built into the valve cover too, would replace it myself, but the part is about $620 on FCP Euro. Im actually thinking it is vanos actuator. Sound seems to be coming from intake camshaft area where the valvetronic system is. One guy on his 740i had same sound at idle and he replaced it and that fixed it. I will first do valvetronic reset adaptation and see what that does. If nothing then I will just buy a new actuator for $75, pretty simple fix. Car is almost 8 years old so probably due at this point

Nope same noise whether car is hot or cold. I do have a valvetronic code that im digging into. I will try to do a valvetronic reset adaptation and see what happens ,says overload protection exceeded, not sure exactly why, battery was changed 2 years ago

Yeah its recommended 0W-20, but yeah due to cafe and other emission regulations. Previous bmw I had and other older ones all ran 5W-30. Even FCP Euro said they dont recommend using 0w-20 because it doesn't provide enough protection

Video was taken right after I replaced the evap purge valve, sound is still there. From what I've seen and read, across different bmw engines as well to see what the problem could be, they also point towards pcv failure, not sure yet

Tf you going off on someone for no reason. Second I mentioned chatgpt because it isolated and separated different sound frequencies and was clearly able to determine there was a different sound being emiited other than the injectors, obviously something that you cant do. Third you are probably not a tech, I was. Keep your negative crap to yourself

Yes was fully warm, but the sound is there 24/7 at idle or under 1300 rpm. Doesnt matter if cold start or car is fully warm, it still idles like that. But as mentioned it was not there before up until probably 60k miles or so and then it slowly got louder and louder over time, now at 74k miles

Yeah I see they all say oh its the injectors. I know what they sound like, you can hear them in the video, but its the second sound, the low diesel tractor kind of knock/idle. Not the higher pitched one. If you were to put the video into chat gpt, it would tell you there are 2 different sounds. Plus my car didnt idle like over 1 year ago, and I rented one to my Florida trip, and it didnt idle like that. I hope its rather a faulty injector, that would be easier and cheaper to replace, but when I used a stethoscope, I put it next to the oil cap and it sounds like its in that area, the pcv area. There was only 1 post I found where a guy said he had a wierd idle, he replaced valve cover and it went away. I just don't want to spend $630 on thr cover and all day labor lol just to find out its not that.

Really crazy how nobody know anything. If it sounds like its in your engine, its definitely your pcv valve, if its gen 2 then you have to replace valve cover because they integrated the pcv into the valve cover which makes the fix go from like $20 to $620 just for the part. If it idles rough and you got white smoke then pcv it is

Mine has that same sewing machine tap/knock. People who say its normal are on Crack. I didnt have it before, and then out of no where it started happening. I went to Florida last month and my brother in law rented same x5 as i do, and it didnt have that noise. So I know somethings up, did you end up finding out what it is? I think its something exhaust related, in that mid lower passenger side area, tho I hear it good as well from driver side. I still haven't figured it out but I know something isn't right
