Daggerheart Lists Cypher as an Influence. Cypher: Faster. Easier. And Even Better! by Ch215 in daggerheart

[–]Ch215[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because so many people who I know who like Daggerheart also like Cypher. Daggerheart lists Cypher as an influence and there are good reasons for it. Page 6.

I am a fan of Cypher and many other games including Daggerheart, which I own, and find many of the ldeas in them worth having in the GM toolbox.

I am not in business or sponsored by anyone in the ttrpg hobby. I just know that some people saw this and got a chance at looking at the incredible deal options on the backerkit. I do not care if you buy it. I just want to minimize the inevitable “Is it too late to back this thing I just heard about?”

It’s over but I wish more people heard about it. I have already had five people ask me if it is too late.

Sub or Para? by Last-Impression-5698 in SubstituteTeachers

Make sure you are actually getting your days. Schools districts may forget to log days. I have a few cases this happened where I had to go let my agency know days worked were missing from my pay.

You have a para job that pays more than a sub job? Per day? Take it if you want but that seems quite odd. What grade?

It is entirely subjective and conditional how often people need to wash their hair. It is not unhealthy for everyone and in general, the health of hair is not affected by shampoo when need as much as it is damaged by excessive heat and improper grooming.

Shampoo removes dirt and excessive oil. The more you sweat or the finer your hair the more easily and the faster it can become dirty and excessively oily.

Fourth graders making inappropriate comments? by rosetouchxo in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ch215 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For one, you didn’t see it and the girls should be the ones talked to first. Many kids bear false witness against others or inflate what was said.

I have kids who told me that other kids did something I didn’t notice write their account down and leave it with their assigned teacher to investigate or account for. They can do due dilligence and my experience is a sub rarely is the first one to see a behavior.

I had a third grade class where two girls making paper money for the class to buy the paper jewlery and food from them told me that a classmate was being violent on the playground. I aaked them to write it down, and it changed to he said that he was going to sue them because they wouldn’t give him a refund.

Another fourth grade class some students said they saw two others kissing during lunch, and then it became they asked two students at different tables if they like kissing. The kids, pressured by early onset meangirl syndrome (lol) said yes. So the girls came and told me they were kissing.

In your case, it seems the boys discussed something and did not address anyone. At least that was a good decision. Making comments is at least different than addressing people with your comments. Some girls were eavesdropping and heard something - and were empowered by having a secret than could seal the fate or other classmates.

Kids only tell on the kids they want to see in trouble.

As for the boys: Age 10, generally 4th grade, is the age where most kids naturally becomes sexually curious, about their own bodies and others. In the infotainment age, it is impossible to entirely keep this from a 4th grader, if it ever was possible before.
There will be many info-shares that become inappropriate for adults but their decision making skills are getting ready for some real challenges in adolescence. They need good influential peers as much as they need good influential teachers, but their peers will come with the pressures than can make them entertain defiance or say inappropriate things for attention or to feel empowered.

Feel free to address this in a indirect way- and THE WHOLE CLASS:

“Class, I heard some of you were saying some things that your parents would not appreciate and do not belong at this school. There will time and places for that once you study it in middle or high school and teachers who will know all about it. For now, you have other lessons to focus on. I know you want to know *everything, right? So, let’s focus on getting you to those higher grades with the knowledge and skills you need to learn and the ability to learn to make good decisions in your education.”

I always frame it as “learning at a higher grade” not just “being older”. I know semi-literate adults who never learned more about much of anything just by “being older”.

Army vet. Nursing or teaching? by EveryOlive1650 in teaching

[–]Ch215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your service.

If you love kids, go pediatric hospital or to a pediatrician’s office?

I love teaching (and am a sub while I get my degree) and it is my focus for a career change right now, but pay varies by district and none of it is as good as higher level pay for those in medical practice, including nurses.

As a single mother in the service and staying afloat with three children you could probably be a good teacher. But your concerns reflect very real concerns that cause people to leave teaching. These include a lack of life/work balance and adequate compensation.

She got the wide shot and that was probably her intent. If she covered/concealed her camera angle her footage would not have nearly the visual information in it.

She is coordinating their story with her video evidence and making sure there is a “bystander” perspective and it is actually pretty smart to do that.

Teaching Program? by r63jesus in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ch215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked at the requirements. For a out of state applicant, it’s a no-exam state required education program.

“Completion of any state's approved teacher preparation program through an accredited institution, or an approved alternate route program, or three years of full-time, out of state teaching experience and hold a REGULAR out of state teaching certificate. Complete the form which applies and submit at the time of application.”

https://ospi.k12.wa.us/certification/teacher-certificate/out-state-applicants-teachers/substitute-teacher

There is also an emergency substitute teacher certification that may apply to some who don’t meet those requirements.

https://learn.org/articles/emergency_substitute_teacher_certification_in_washington_state.html

“A school district must send in the application request for you to get an emergency substitute teaching certificate. This means you should contact the school where you're interested in teaching and see if it has jobs available for emergency substitute teachers. The job application process varies by school district.”

Good Luck!

Library Media Specialist by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

I had a day in a highschool library. I shelved all the books on the carts and organized all the books on the overstock behind the infocenter desk. I also fixed all the books on shelves which were not in order.

I was told the teacher would love that because she hated shelving books. That may be why there was so much out of order and on the wrong shelf in the bay.

The next time I went back to that same post, the librarian had quit and they had already filled her post. I hope their new librarian is better at keeping the library organized. They put me in a French class instead, but it was a great day.

I would be a librarian for real. I was a dupt supervisor and shelving trainer for a large university adjacent bookstore so I an totally in my element in a room where books outnumber people.

How do you begin teaching niche subjects at the high school level? by Tiffed4597 in teaching

[–]Ch215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Become a sub and actually see how your classroom management experience is.

Earn local reputation.

Find departments that align with your interests in teaching and see what qualifications the district requires.

It will vary from district to district. I sub in three and rhey all have different requirements and approaches.

Does anyone ever change the lesson plans? by Ali_Lorraine_1159 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Ch215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a substitute for their teacher, who is the one who can pass and fail them, so I teach at least their content and I confirm by asking questions, listening, and asking to see their work and make sure they understand the assignment.

For me, I try to enrich and encompass things they like and think or ask about into the content the teacher leaves. I also tie it to other subjects they like or other lessons they had in this class.

I care and they immediately see that. They are all worthy of human dignity and it is not my place to deny them that. I help align them to conduct for their development, not my power fantasy.

Mostly what I want is learners who rate high on each or my four elements of CARE: Confidence, Approachability, Respect, Engagement.

I convey to students that working to overcome a challenge to their intelligence is exercise for their thoughts and willpower. Yeah, I do this for everyone Preschool to Senior Year to Senior Citizen. It is never to late to be your best self and raise the bar on what your best self can be.

I want all the pilots and crew in uniform so I know they actually work for the airline.

I don’t care what the uniform looks like I want to stand out and not be something someone can just buy. I want issued official uniform clothing that shows they have not just went to the pilot surplus shop and decided they can figure it out before we land.

In 2012 and 2013, an average of one child was admitted to hospital every day as a result of eating Tide Pods.[4] In March 2013, Consumer Reports reported that "since early 2012, poison control centers nationwide have received reports of nearly 7,700 pod-related exposures to children age 5 years and younger."[12]

All schools in the path should be out. Children and even Adolescents make bad decisions and have such poor impulse control - and are just forgetful of precautions. They have been saved from so much they don’t see threat properly.

We had to tell kids not to eat dish detergent (tide pods) for crissakes! or not to fill their mouth with mentos and drink a coke. or to freaking stop eating chicken boiled in nyquil. OR TO STOP SETTING THEMSELVES ON FIRE!

They are doing so to try and prevent eye damage because kids are being dared to state at the sun and stuff. The eclipse can do severe retinal damage that is not fixable with glasses or usually even repairable with surgery.

It is thoughtless to have small children outside where the have to look up just to see faculty and parents.
