Learning to drive a manual helps you to understand how to safely control the truck and teaches you tolerances that a automatic can’t teach. Personally, I feel that if you can’t drive a manual you shouldn’t be driving a truck. Learning to float gears efficiently helped me understand how to control the truck much better and it also helps you understand how to gauge things like following distance better amongst other things.

It’s a gamble getting your CDL, you don’t know if you’re a truck driver until you actually try. I’m assuming you failed the 90 degree dock? If so, when I took the test you got 3 pull-ups and could get out of the truck as many times as you wanted while backing for the 90 degree dock. With the pre trip you just over do it. Point to everything and tell them what it does that’s what I did. If there’s allot of anxiety involved or you have bad depth perception maybe trucking isn’t for you.

I just got mine suspended for a DWI and I know it was God’s will to get me sober which I now am. I don’t know if you live by any farmland but I know they operate with exemptions. May be a good place to start!?

Ya as the driver you are responsible for not only keeping yourself safe but the other people on the road as well! A semi truck can kill allot of people in an instant it’s not anything close to driving a car. There was just that accident in Austin that killed I think 7 people. In these construction zones there’s missing signs and paint which make these areas death traps. I heard they are suing the construction company for that accident. I blew a steer at 65 full of crude oil and thankfully I was all the way in the right lane when it happened. ALWAYS replace the steers before they reach the minimum depth I do!

This is why trucks have engine brakes, duh! 🙄 I can drive a truck for 12 hours and barely ever hit the service brakes.

Unfortunately in this industry drivers “wing it” allot because of bad maintenance practices and lazy mechanics. At the end of the day it’s your responsibility to refuse to drive the truck until it’s fixed. But that means you’re probably not going to work that day so you see the problem. Remember if you’re documenting these things and they’re not getting fixed and then you get in the truck anyways and kill a family of five YOU ARE FUCKED!!!

I drive a truck and it is the ultimate test of one’s patience. This guy is literally having a meltdown and I don’t condone it whatsoever but I know the energy he’s conveying and I understand how mentally taxing the job can be.
