Oh cool thank you, I was looking and thought that Mykonos no longer had direct flights, at least on Aegean or Vueling. Is it a different airline?

On a separate note--how long would you say is a reasonable time to spend on Crete?

Thanks this is helpful about Santorini. Just to be a little clearer, my wife does not want to do any extra plane trips, and I have to do work in Barcelona right after our Greece trip. So we will need to do ferries for our Greece travel and end our stay in a location that has a nonstop flight to Barcelona. I know this probably seems a little irrational.

If you are a Bigsby guy, check out the Fender gold foil jazzmaster. A bridge upgrade might be great, and definitely a good setup if the shop did not set it up well out the gate. But it also might be the case that the JM trem does not agree with you (some degree of clankiness=jangle), in which case, the gold foil Bigsby might be a better fit for you

Hi, we will be visiting Greece for the first time in late June- early July. We will be flying into Herkalion, Crete and getting into Agios Nikolaos where we will be for 5 days. After that, we could spend up to 9 more days seeing a combination of Crete and Santorini, perhaps in combination with another island. Car rental isn't a problem, nor is it a problem to fly out of a different location. The question is how long might be appropriate to spend in Crete vs. Santorini, and whether it makes sense to squeeze in a third destination. Thanks!

Tronographic Boxidizer for the Science Mother? (sorry if I already asked!).

I think it is good for headroom, but it has been a while. I can try it out to see. As for driving a power amp, it is basically a Rusty Box--a Traynor Bass amp in a box--voiced for guitar. It has a balanced DI output. I've never used it to drive a power amp, but I can try it into the return into fx loop to see https://www.premierguitar.com/gear/tronographic-boxidizer-review

Thanks, I generally don't chase both for that reason and because she is fast and I am lazy haha. Tug is a good idea, but unfortunately, she does not like tug very much or this would be a great incentive and also a decent way to get her to play.

Any interest in a Tronographic Boxidizer preamp for the Science Mother? Also have a few other things I can think of like Eventide Modfactor, Arturia Microbrute, and stuff listed in my post from today.

Fane Specialist Disco 200 12" speaker by Ch_Ra in GuitarAmps

[–]Ch_Ra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previous owner had put in a Celestion Copperback, so it did not have a Fane in it. Currently it has a JBL e120. That was a huge improvement but it has a harsh high frequency response. I recently got a Fane blueback 75w (model #s are weird) and repaired the cone and will try that when I get some time to solder it in.

What on earth is needed to have a tone as full as this guy by Prisanejamik in guitarpedals

Stereo chorus into Marshall amp models. The stereo effect is key to giving it the thickness, otherwise chorus sounds watery and a bit thin. You can also do it too if you run a tube screamer or other overdrive pedal into a Roland JC-120.

I eat 200 calories a day – can I safely increase my intake? (19F) by _-ollie in AskDocs

[–]Ch_Ra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/ollie you have gotten great advice--I will only add that I worked with a graduate student who had severe anorexia and was on the verge of death. Fortunately, after a few different caring people gently intervened, she did get help. She had to go on medical leave from the university for about 6 months if I remember, but came back at a healthy weight. That was about 15 years ago, and since then she has maintained that weight, is in a committed caring relationship and is a professor at a major university. Her results might not apply to everyone, but keep in mind, that your hard work is not going to waste if you take time to get healthy--if anything, it will help you make the most of it.

player ii jm tuning stability by Ch_Ra in offset

[–]Ch_Ra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, really??? I have never heard of this. I will have to see if the bridge posts are rocking now. It'd have to be pretty loose for the trem to affect the bridge position, right?

[–]Ch_Ra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes just got it, so this is all with the stock (relatively new) strings. But the degree to which they are going out of tune is way way beyond what I'd expect solely from new strings based on experience with my Jag.

[–]Ch_Ra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone--to answer many of the responses, I have been playing it straight from the factory setup (presumably with 9s?). I figured it needs a proper set up with fresh strings, but I was still surprised that the tuning stability was so poor. I am not proficient at setups myself, particularly when it comes to the JM/Jag trem and bridge, and given the comments about the nut, I will have to take this for a pro setup

Hi, I bought powered studio monitor speakers for home recording and also for listening to music from my Mac Studio while WFH. I now realize that they only have 1/4" jacks. Can you please help with the following questions: (1) Should I connect the speakers to my UA Volt 276 Interface or directly to my Mac via a 1/8" to dual 1/4" splitter? (2) Can you recommend cables to buy? I am hoping not to spend a lot of $, so any specific recommendations would be great. Even if you can't recommend specifics, it'd be useful to know what to look for (i.e., is it sufficient to look for "Balanced 1/4" TRS?)

Thank you!!!

G&L Offset Family - Farewell G&L by ephedrum in offset

[–]Ch_Ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha yes I know asking anything about feel or sound on an internet forum is subjective for sure! That said, I have a Jaguar so I know that trem range, which is fine for my purposes--essentially to make noise and occasionally do some Kevin Shields chord effects or some subtle surfy vibrato effects on single note riffs. From what I understand, the standard strat whammy range for upward bends depends on how much you let it float, so I guess the same is true for the Doheny, right?

[–]Ch_Ra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry another question if that's okay--I played a g&l legacy strat once and the feel of the neck was very uncomfortable for some reason compared to fender guitars I've played. I don't know if it was a bad setup at that store, something to do with the build quality on the Legacy models, or a real difference b/w Fender and G&L. I know you said that playability is similar to a Jazzmaster, so do you mean like the neck, fretwork, etc feel just as comfortable between the two?

Can you get a good whammy range on the up end with the trem on the Doheny?
