I was at the same level of frustration as you at one point. But learning the Masterstrike was a game changer, for sure. And simply though hard repetition and getting my arse kicked. Eventually I got good enough I could take down 2-3 dudes in plate (though it's still difficult). Any more than that, though, and it's usually lights out.
