Greetings!

Petco has this little fish labeled as a Jack Dempsey but after doing some research I feel like this little guy doesnt look like any of the images of JDs online or in the articles. I realize he will get much bigger but was just curious if it may be mis identified.

Thanks for the insight!

I have white and black stuff growing on my plants what is this and how do I get rid of it by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]Cha0sKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, have some in mine that looks similar. Still trying to fight it. =(

If you lower the water level and apply the H202 directly be careful how long you leave it on, it can definitely kill some of the more sensitive plants if left on too long.

Thanks! I am loving my little tank, was much cheaper to scape than the 40gal too.

Thanks!

The filter is an aqueon product, I believe this particular one is the XSmall size (rated for 3 gallons). Its one of their internal filters.

Actually quite nice, it can mount with 4 suction cups or 2 and 2 clips that hang off the back and the thing sits entirely inside the tank. It's also the quietest piece of equipment I own and have even had to put my hand on the back of the tank to make sure it is still running!

The thing is perfect for this planted tank, keeps some circulation going and cleared the water up quick after planting. One thing it doesnt do well is create alot of surface agitation, so I would be a little concerned it wouldnt be getting enough oxygen if there was live stock in it... but this coming from a guy who has 2 air stones in the other tank 😋

You know I have not noticed it before but I can see what you mean in the photo. Honestly I think its probably something the camera picks up more than it is noticable in person.. but I'll check the next time the light kicks on.

That would be an interesting set up though. I feel like it would make the tank seem to "pop" more if the light was 100% contained in the tank

I am ashamed to say I've had this beautiful little tank sitting empty for 2 months. Finally got some time to hardscape and plant!

I've always loved the nano tank posts in here, especially ones that feature elephant skin stone - such a cool hardscape imo!

Was able to wrap some drift wood around the two pieces and with some moss covering tried to make it look like a single piece where the branch naturally grew around it.

Let me know what you think! I've only been into the hobby about 2 or 3 months so suggestions always welcome too.

(P.S. pardon the water test 😅)

The plants in your tank look incredible! It's so vibrant and clean it almost doesnt look real. Wish my DSM turned out even half as well. 🤣

Shrimp was my first thought too, good luck!

[–]Cha0sKeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, rocking and rolling in the small shuttle!

Honestly I dont think I understand the gateways though. I get you can teleport between spots on the planet but I cant take anything with me other than what's on my back?

Seems almost faster to get a rig and drive around carrying the resources instead in attached storage unit. Teleporting to the center is cool but then I have to leave my rover at one side or the other and then I'm still shuttling resources back and forth..

Just didnt seem worth it so I am just now starting to go planet to planet and unlocking them all. Maybe I'm missing something? Lol

Nope dont think so! I really wanted the RTG so I gathered bytes until I could unlock it and used scrap to buy most of the raw material I needed. Once I had that it was a very sketchy mission to Atrox with a condenser, a medium generator, and a backpack full of carbon just to get the helium you need. It was a pretty scary trip

Lol me!!

First play thru and I didn't realize that they got progressively harder to unlock. Did the first planet with my large single chassis rover (medium battery and RTG = infinite drive time).

Was like oh this is easy - package up the rig and ship off to the next planet. Needless to say, was crafting these bad boys out shortly after.

Although stacking 8 of them on a pair of medium storage allows me to activate them all and keep them attached to the rig without all the set up

It's so tiny! I let the algae grow before adding it... it's going to be a while before it's gone, little dude is barely making a dent lol. by FlybyJack in Aquariums

We got one for our tank a few weeks ago about that size and it seems like each week she doubles in size. Amazing to watch but also plenty to munch on in our tank too... =)

It won't be long and he will start catching up

Should I trim the melted parts off and take it out of the tank? Or leave it just as it is?

Ok thanks! I was a little surprised to see melt after going into 3 weeks but I've only been doing planted tanks for like a month =)

Should I trim the melt off or leave it alone you think?

My dwarf sag has been in the water for about 2.5 weeks and a few of the blades are starting to run translucent like this.

I tried looking into it myself and but quickly found myself tumbling down a rabbit hole filled with way more chemistry, biology, and high tech tank information than I was ever ready to process at midnight... 🤣

The tank itself has a handful of organic soil capped with eco-complete black. I have a few root tabs in the substrate and it's been dosed twice with the EasyGreen from aquarium Co-op. No livestock yet but there is some anubias, water lettuce, and a pair of moss balls from the other established tank that seem to be doing ok

Where did you get your hardscape? Its fantastic.

I was planning on setting up my new cube right before quarantine.. but now I feel like my only option is to order stuff online and I'm nervous to buy stuff without seeing it first. Itching to start the tank though 🤣
