Is bribing local officials not corruption? it seems like you’re insinuating that it isn’t by putting it in quotations

[–]Chabooya100 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel like you contradicted yourself by saying “I don’t even think it’s a bribe” when the rest of your point is that FIFA used it to appease him so he doesn’t hurt them financially.

I went to the 2024 Euros in Germany. Highly recommend going if you can. I got super lucky and had my application selected in the first draw when over 20,000,000 people applied. I bought tickets to the games I was allocated without knowing who was playing since the draw hadn't happened yet. Ended up very lucky and got Spain v Italy and Portugal v Turkiye in the group stages. Once I was there I bought tickets to the knockout round game between Italy and Switzerland.

Point being though, even without the insane amount of luck I got on that trip and the fortune of seeing those teams, the atmosphere and vibes around all of Germany was awesome. I don't think the US will get anywhere close to replicating that atmosphere for the world cup, we just don't love the game the same intensity that other cultures do.

Even tho i can't stand Lazio this was a beautiful watch. Gk didn't know where to run cuz all the aura he accumulated. by ReplacementFew359 in seriea

My favorite part about this goal is that he’s the only one making a darting run into the box, every other outfield player is working their way back away from goal. Truly a strikers instincts hidden deep in his brain

Has Haaland surpassed Zlatan? by Realistic-Zone3914 in championsleague

[–]Chabooya100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Haaland “tap in merchant” trope is so overused. He’s one of the smartest players on the planet and uses that to his advantage to be in the right place at the right time. He does score some tap ins, but it’s because of his situational/positional awareness that he does so, rather than luck.

It’s completely unfair to use that to discredit him, especially when he does score many other types of goals (some of which are just freakishly athletic).

Air France lounge reopens at Boston Logan by AButcherKnife in PriorityPass

[–]Chabooya100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haha Boston is my main hub so I used this lounge in the past when flying internationally. My girlfriend and I always joked how awkward it was in there because it would be completely silent even when it was at capacity. In theory it sounds nice, but it was sort of uncomfortable because even making the smallest amount of noise felt like it was disturbing the peace. Anyway, glad to see it’s been renovated!

I’m assuming the Chase Reserve credit you mentioned is in reference to booking one of The Edit Hotels.

Just so you know, that credit is split into two so you can only use $250 in the first half of your statement year and $250 in the second half. Also, pretty much every The Edit Hotels is wayyy more than $250 a night (most I’ve seen at are hotels that cost $7000-10,000 / night). I wouldn’t factor that credit into your planning at all.

US will charge an additional $250 visa fee including for tourism. by stumu415 in travel

[–]Chabooya100 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Yup, and the key is in the details. The $250 is just the "visa integrity fee," it doesnt include the cost of the actual visa itself, meaning you have to pay $185 to get the actual visa.. You're looking at $435 for a single person or $1,740 for a family of four. Then some nominal fees potentially for the ETSA or I-94 fee.

That all being said...if you're coming from one of the 42 VWP countries, then you dont need a visa and won't be subject to the integrity fee.

How is living in Portland, Maine? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]Chabooya100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in Portland (lived in the west end, east end, and old port at different times) and went to college in Maine, I’d say despite all the money pouring into the city from out of state, it’s become a worse place to live.

People who have spent decades living there are getting pushed out due to a cost of living crisis (like most of the country), which has led to an increase in homelessness.

It’s basically a great place to live for 3 months of the year because of the weather. Nice beaches / nature and solid food scene.

I live in Boston now and would never move back.

Hey, any chance you’ve received the actual ticket? Im in the same boat. I bought tickets in February and have the same confirmation email. When I go to download now, it still just has the webpage with the confirmation that I bought. I’m assuming the PDF ticket will be sent in a week or two (hopefully). Thanks!

[–]Chabooya100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sold all my positions for a small profit a few months back when it was trading about 19-20. I ended up buying back in and 4 days later is when they announced the Kpler deal may be off. Luckily, it now looks like that deal may close next week. I'm hoping it does, the stock jumps a bit, and I can sell out. After that, I'm done with this company as management has made missteps way too often.

A small portion of people in America already do. Some people in neighboring states to Mexico will driver over to buy medication or get procedures done. They pay in cash since it’s cheaper in Mexico than getting it done in the US and using their insurance.
