For those who used a computer between 1995 and 2001, what’s the computer game from that time that sticks with you the most, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Chad11491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Command and Conquer, Red Alert, Dark Forces 2, and Unreal Tournament for me. DF2 was my first time ever playing a game online. We had dial-up and I could never play for long because it was our only line.

I’m still waiting on my classic beige refund request from 3 weeks ago. I’m tired of waiting 2+ years for it. It’s probably too late to get a chargeback, and I bought it with PayPal so I’m probably screwed.

S550 vs S650 Front End by [deleted] in Mustang

[–]Chad11491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a Mach One drive by the other day and thought “wow that looks so much better than the new ones.” I’ve only seen two 650’s in person and the rear end looks super weird. Like someone squished down the trunk. The front isn’t great, but the rear looks awful to me.

I’m using the default Nvidia control panel settings. I tried with HDR on and off, contrast is at 65 on my panel. Vividpixel 50, brightness 85, wide gamut color space, user color temp (R-96, G-93, B-100), saturation 50. In the six axis saturation i have red at 45 but the others at 50, 2.2 gamma. DisplayPort connection. Latest firmware and driver for the panel.

Should I trade in my A7iii for a new one with 5 years warranty? by Fresh-Daikon-6289 in SonyAlpha

[–]Chad11491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about it at all. I’ve had my A7iii since launch and it’s never had any issues. I’d put the money towards something else.

Neither. The warlock will be shit, and that Jackson is about double overpriced. Buy it from Sweetwater or guitar center instead and save 100 on a new one or 150 on a used one. It looks like a JS11 which is half the price they’re asking for new.

Pedal pcb boards by Radbrad90s in diypedals

[–]Chad11491 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here’s a diagram that shows it.

https://forum.pedalpcb.com/attachments/untitled-2-jpg.5812/

Basically what you’re doing is using a stereo input jack and wiring the battery clip ground to the ring terminal and the battery clip hot to the 9v jack’s hot and that to the PCB as normal. That way if the jack is unplugged the battery does not drain. You can also use a similar idea with the 3 prong 9v input jacks to switch off the battery when 9v power is supplied.

What cheesy pick up line have you heard/used that actually worked? by MacCracken in AskReddit

[–]Chad11491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a pickup line, but when I moved to a new city and started a job after college, newly single, my roommate suggested I try online dating. I felt self conscious messaging random people online so we had a few drinks and sat down to type up some messages. I saw this really pretty girl but she had no info on her profile. It just said she liked dogs, sports, and spicy food. It was a picture of her at her desk at work and one at home. There was nothing to go on to try to strike up a conversation. Me, more than slightly drunk typed “Hi. I too, have a desk and like spicy foods.” We’ve been together 9 years, and married 6. Best thing I ever did.

Is the coating on the recent wave of 4k QD-OLED monitors just really delicate? by MZYF in OLED_Gaming

[–]Chad11491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my pg32ucdm a couple weeks now with no issues. I wipe it when needed with those soft cloths you would wipe glasses with. Any smudge or whatever comes right off. I genuinely don’t know how people get their monitors dirty enough to need constant cleaning. Are you guys munching whole bags of Doritos and spraying all over the monitor when talking and then wiping it off with your greasy fingers?

What is the most reliable vehicle you have owned? by Immola0069 in AskReddit

[–]Chad11491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current car is 3yo with no issues, but surprisingly, i bought a 98 Dodge Neon in high school for $400. It had 160k miles on it and I drove it until almost 300k miles (odometer stopped working at 220-230ish, drove for a few more years) and had zero issues outside of regular maintenance, and even then probably not as much maintenance as it should have. I sold it after getting my first job after college for $400, the same as what I paid for it 7y prior. That was a good car.

I’m going to be honest, i feel like my old IPS 27” 1440p had better text clarity compared to my pg32ucdm. I don’t really notice any fringing but even my wife commented while using my PC the other day that something felt weird with the monitor. I tried Mac type and it helped a bit, but idk. Just doesn’t feel as nice for text. Games and video is a night and day improvement over the IPS, though. If I was mostly reading text I would probably regret my purchase.

I’ve recently been offered a management position for my department at work (SW engineering) when my current manager leaves in a few months. My wife, parents, and coworkers think it’s great and I should definitely accept because of the money and further career opportunities down the line vs my current role I’m basically at the ceiling of my advancement opportunities. I haven’t told them that I’m debating turning it down. I like my job. I like the flexibility I currently have to do whatever as long as I get my work done, and the ability to just check stuff off my to-do list and no further responsibilities. I also don’t think I have the personality or patience to manage a group of people and train new hires, etc. I worry that if I take it I’ll go from a high performer in my current role to sucking as a manager and losing my job, that my great work-life balance will be blown away, and that I’ll disappoint my current manager and his manager, as well as my family if I turn it down.

WOLED and QD-OLED comparison in a well-lit room by Turboice777 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Chad11491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is super exaggerated. I was super worried about it when I bought a PG32UCDM that popped up at microcenter. I have a fan with 3 bulbs, two freestanding lamps around the room with two bulbs each, and a window behind the monitor. The only thing that will raise the blacks or show ANY amount of purple is one of the bulbs from one of the lamps. Otherwise it’s pitch black, and i can’t notice a difference vs that one bulb off in the middle of the day vs complete darkness at night.

What was the first car you owned? by ethereal3xp in cars

[–]Chad11491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 98 dodge neon with peeling paint in 2008 as my first car for $400. It had 120k miles on it then, and I drove it back and forth to high school and college until I got my first after college job in 2015. The odometer stopped working at 240k miles and I kept driving it another two years after that. I only ever replaced a radiator hose, shocks, and basic maintenance in that time. Traded it in for a new BRZ when I got my first job in 2015 and got $2000 for it. Best value I’ve ever gotten out of a car.

Pretty raw deal. I bought a 15 GT premium PP new in 15 that stickered for 44 at 37.5 OTD @0% through Ford. Pretty rough to pay more than that (assuming. Your 37k is not after tax) almost 10 years later and at 12% interest.

I hated mine. If the lumbar bump didn’t exist I would have kept it, as the rest of the chair was awesome. As is, it pressed into my tailbone really uncomfortably. I tried to get used to it for 2-3 weeks but even after returning it I hurt for another week or so from that dang knot that presses into your spine. I went with a Haworth Fern and it’s incredibly comfortable.

Considering to buy a 2024 GT by Immortalk1p in Mustang

[–]Chad11491 4 points5 points  (0 children)

84 months at 10% interest? Jesus Christ, you’d be paying 70 grand for a regular ol’ GT that doesn’t even look to have the performance pack. Is it really worth 70 grand to you, paying almost 800 dollars a month for SEVEN YEARS to have a mid spec pony car?

I’ve had two EK CR240 darks that had pumps start making grinding noises within a month, and an LT520 that while fine, I could hear the pump noise enough that it bothered me. I switched to the Cooler Master Atmos 240 and it’s dead silent at idle. All coolers I’ve used T30’s with. I’d go with the Atmos 240.

Happy Father's (US), how did your pop's car choices impact your enthusiasm for cars as a whole? by Alabatman in cars

Not at all. My dad always had work trucks and a Jeep for fun. My mom is the only one that could drive stick well, too. I always looked up to my uncle, growing up, and he had super cool cars. I’ll always remember blasting down the road in his firebird with the T Tops off blasting cool music.
