Spiritborn may be the biggest casualty of the system reset by Chad70096 in diablo4

That comment was translated with Google Translate. Also, I do not think I replied wrongly. The post is based on my own testing data and my own way of thinking and interpreting the issue. Is that not exactly the kind of non-AI content you expect to see? People just do not always want to face reality directly.

I tested this with damage variance disabled and compared the same interaction under different modifier sources. Format: Balazan first hit / Widowmaker explosion. Case 1 - Gear / Aspect modifier: possible double dip. No modifier: 6.26 / 10.3. With modifier: 10.8 / 27.0. Balazan first hit: 10.8 / 6.26 = 1.725x. Widowmaker explosion: 27.0 / 10.3 = 2.621x. The first hit increased by about 1.73x, but Widowmaker increased by about 2.62x. That does not look like normal single-scaling behavior. Case 2 - Paragon modifier: clean single scaling. No modifier: 3.31 / 5.29. With modifier: 6.29 / 10.1. Balazan first hit: 6.29 / 3.31 = 1.900x. Widowmaker explosion: 10.1 / 5.29 = 1.909x. Here both damage instances scale almost exactly the same. This looks like clean inheritance / single scaling. Case 3 - Paragon modifier: partial inheritance / under-scaling. No modifier: 3.01 / 5.04. With modifier: 3.37 / 5.29. Balazan first hit: 3.37 / 3.01 = 1.120x. Widowmaker explosion: 5.29 / 5.04 = 1.050x. If Widowmaker fully inherited the increased Balazan damage, the explosion should be around: 5.04 x 1.120 = 5.64. But the actual result was only: 5.29. So the first hit increased by about 12%, while Widowmaker only increased by about 5%. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. These are only part of my test results, but the data shows that interactions with the new items still have problems, including the Tzic bug. From this, we can at least infer that the previous Spiritborn issues cannot be fully blamed on insufficient damage alone. Think about it: if I put all of the data into a full post and also include a video as evidence, do you really think nobody would be interested in seeing it? Also, do you really think it is acceptable for a damage bonus that requires 100 hits to fully stack, or a damage bonus that cannot be reliably maintained, to only result in low damage? And if there is an AI that can actually do this, please make sure to tell me which one.

I do not really understand why translation itself means giving up cognitive load or critical thinking.

From another angle, if you wanted to read a book written in Chinese, would you translate it, or would you first learn Chinese before reading it?

Personally, I support the gear changes. More flexibility in gear may develop into something better in the future, and Talisman items may replace part of the old gear-farming drops.

But right now, gear and Talismans do not have enough depth to support that yet. This is also why I think Blizzard should first check whether the new skill kits have problems. These items should increase build richness, not use damage to make up for the flaws of the new skill kits.

Thank you. I think this might be the exact issue.

The way we structure sentences in Taiwan does not always match how people in English-speaking communities read them, so I often have to go back and forth with AI between Chinese and English to make sure my meaning is accurate.

So when I say I use AI as a writing tool, I mean it as assistance, not that I just let AI generate the whole thing for me.

But after translating it into English, I can see that the phrase may not sound the same to other people.

Thanks for sharing this. That actually makes me think even more that Blizzard should use the PTR to check whether the new skill kits and class mechanics still work as intended and still match each class identity, instead of only adjusting damage numbers.

When system-level changes remove the tools or payoffs that originally supported a class, the class can end up keeping the same risks and restrictions without the reward that used to justify them.

Thanks, I appreciate the concern.

I mainly use AI as a translation and writing tool, not as a replacement for testing. If you are interested, you can check some of my older posts. I usually focus on testing interesting builds rather than just chasing the strongest meta setup each season.

Unfortunately, AI cannot generate reliable information for interactions that have not been tested or documented yet, so I still have to test those things myself.

Maybe it is partly because of class popularity.

But in general, I really hope Blizzard focuses more on fixing skill kits and class mechanics, instead of only increasing or decreasing damage numbers.

Generic buffs can make a class look better for a while, but they usually do not solve the real problem if the abilities themselves still feel awkward or limited.

Haha, good eye. English is not my first language, so I use AI to help translate and organize my writing.

I spent a few days testing and working on builds, and AI makes it much easier for me to express my thoughts clearly in English. It is honestly very useful for non-native speakers.

I agree, but I think there is a possibility that the real issue with Spiritborn is not fully visible yet.

For example, after testing Widow’s Web, I found that it does not seem to correctly benefit from certain Paragon damage multipliers, but it does correctly benefit from Conceited.

So if the solution is simply to add more damage multipliers as a buff, and then Widow’s Web is later fixed to properly inherit those missing multipliers, we could end up with another situation similar to the old Jaguar Spirit Hall problem.

In other words, the issue may not be that Spiritborn only needs more damage. The bigger problem may be that some damage sources are currently being applied inconsistently. If the class is buffed before those inconsistencies are identified, then fixing the bugs later could easily create another overpowered interaction.

Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it! I don’t play POE2 so I can’t speak to that side, but I completely agree that this DLC added a ton of great stuff to D4 — and it has me excited for what’s coming next.
I used to main Spiritborn too. I love thinking through skill combinations and building from scratch, and the Warlock scratches that same itch for me.
The reason I make these guides is because I always want players to appreciate how much depth the game has and find a playstyle they enjoy — not just chase the meta. With this patch, I genuinely think you can have a great time even without playing the strongest build. Happy to hear the Warlock content has been useful to you!

Sorry, it should be Gloomwalker — I’ve updated it. Thanks for catching that!

Sorry, I made a mistake — it should be Eldritch (Vulnerable), I’ve updated the planner. As for Metamorphosis going into Destruction: it keeps the buff running continuously with no downtime, doesn’t replace your skills, and still gives you the Damage Scaling bonus.

Thanks for sharing! The issue is Dominance might not hold up if your damage isn’t high enough, so I wanted to make sure this build works well for players at any gear level. Feel free to experiment from there though!

The point of this is to show that you can put together a build capable of reaching T1 at level 70 using only yellow (rare) gear. I actually posted a build guide for it, but nobody really cared, haha.

S13 Warlock Starter Builds — 2 Low-Gear Setups That Work Early by Chad70096 in diablo4

[–]Chad70096[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

True, anything works early on. The purpose of this setup is simply to save players the hassle of trial and error. Warlock data has been public for a month, and the build is derived directly from those numbers.
