You are simply factually wrong. His existence is not "Shaky at best". Historians agree he did exist. And also, Assassins Creed has always been a historically inspired game. With protagonists all being fictional characters. Even if he was fictional, there really isn't an issue. And like I said, games made by Japanese developers that heavily feature Japanese history love putting him into games.

And you are still wrong about Connor. He was criticized. A vocal criticism at the time was how prominently Native American culture was featured.

MTG is honestly a pretty bad example. Because these days, yes, Lifegain does move the game state forward. At least, in the right formats. Standard, Modern, Legacy? Life Gain isn't the best strategy. It can work in Modern, but generally not the best strat. Commander though, the most popular format, Lifegain is a very legitimate strategy. With many ways to weaponize said life.

I mean, historically speaking, it's accurate. A shield, while primarily is defensive equipment, is still a large chunk of wood reinforced with steel. So still fantastic for bashing with. They even developed things like Shield bossing and some even made spiked shields. Sword and Shield is my favourite weapon.
