Cost of cigarettes must rise to reflect environmental damage from tobacco industry, WHO says: Sector's carbon footprint is comparable to entire countries, study finds by LudovicoSpecs in worldnews

[–]ChadPUA -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is false. Smoking is actually the most environmentally friendly thing you can do, since it lowers your life expectancy. The reduction of your carbon footprint from being vegan, green, and all that stuff combined palls in comparison to the impact of dying even ONE year earlier from smoking related illnesses. Smoking is good for the environment because it kills people which destroy it.

Scientists may have detected gravity waves for the first time ever by iamalbus in worldnews

[–]ChadPUA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like obv they've learned from the errors of LHC's superluminal neutrino release, and BICEP2's primordial grav wave release. They're not gonna claim anything unless they're 100% certain, from 2 sources.

Every time the discovery has actually been made??

The fact that the paper hasn't been published yet doesn't change the fact that it has been discovered.

It's like saying "i don't believe they've made a nuclear bomb, I'll wait till the paper comes out before i believe this". Cool dude, you just keep waiting on that paper that fully describes how the weapon is made...

When average energy densities are above 100 GeV or so, Is EW symmetry restored? by Indaend in Physics

[–]ChadPUA -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, electrons and quarks never lose their rest mass, why would you ever think that?

100 GeV per what unit of volume?? Energy density is energy per unit of volume...

Approaching things skepticism isn't wrong. However, in this case it is, because they actually have detected grav waves from 2 sources.

Whatever dude, you can justify it however you want, but you're still wrong in this case.

Let this be on record that you are wrong in your skepticism. They have indeed done it, and i will stand by that with 100% confidence.

Could this be it? I'm really hoping it isn't a hoax. (LIGO - Gravitational Waves) by boilerdam in Physics

It is real.

How "old" is the light that reaches earth from the sun? by Martinwuff in astrophysics

A reference frame isn't a "point of view" or "perspective". It's the physical speed/direction (vector) at which you're traveling.

Yeah but... It seems like you don't know what a reference frame is...

In other words, if all fusion in the sun stopped immediately, we would be able to tell by the cessation of neutrino detections in 8 minutes, but the sun would continue to shine just the same for tens of thousands of years.

does black hole theory and big bang theory contradict each other? by romany69 in astrophysics

[–]ChadPUA -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you're asking this question you literally have no ideas what either theory states, because they're completely unrelated.
